Girls Get Together. Had a great meal with former co-workers. The service was great – especially since we were busy catching up with each other and slow to order – there server was gracious and gave us plenty of time. Virginia spots were excellent. And the server recommended the mango vinagrette dressing – don’t pass that up – it was very good. And they validate parking if you park in 5th Avenue Place. And the price for a downtown white table cloth restaurant was very reasonable.

Pleasant Experience. I ate there last Friday before the Pirate game and had a good time. Our server was Rob and he displayed the perfect blend of professionalism and personality. We were a party of seven that included four freshman co-eds from Duquesne and three of their dads. Everything was served promptly, made correctly, and tasted fine. The proximity to the cultural district will keep this place on my radar for future trips to the city. Free parking to boot!
Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!. My manager took our department here for lunch one day. First of all, the place looks like one of the Golden Girls decorated it. Normally I dont care what a restaurant looks like as long as the food is good. Unfortunately that is NOT the case at Caffe Amante. I ordered the grill tuna salad and the waitress promptly informed me that the tuna steak was not an Ahi grade so I should not get it rare or medium. A coworker ordered the Virginia Spots and she was asked to choose a side of risotto, pasta, or veggie du jour. She chose risotto. When the meals arrived, my tuna steak was rubbery and bland and greasey for some reason. The lettuce leaves were slightly brown at the edges, and the hardboiled egg…well…it tasted strange… Im not really sure how to describe it except it was almost as if it was stale or in a dirty fridge and left uncovered. Im not exactly sure but there was something funky about it. My co-worker who ordered the Spots said that it was not broiled in butter or seasoned with salt. The risotto was crunchy on the inside like it wasnt cooked long enough. Needless to say…YUCK!
