Corned Beef and Pastrami Sandwiches. Absolutely the best corned beef sandwich ever. I have been a fan of Sammy’s for at least 25 years. It seems like nothing more than a bar, but don’t let that fool you. The corn beef is excellent. I like the corn beef special on light rye with the coleslaw and Swiss cheese.
Famous where?. I was downtown and starving so I stopped in. Not sure where this stuff is famous but it can’t be in Pittsburgh. Service was kind of slow and the lady ringing me up was somewhat rude. I don’t expect much but damn, how about a little politeness. Corned beef was dry and didn’t taste the sauce at all. Won’t be back unless they give out coupons, lol. But, $2 Heineken drafts on Tuesdays.

First Time I’ve Ever Really Liked Corned Beef. As I was walking near my school in downtown Pittsburgh, I saw Sammy’s Famous Corned Beef many times and, as a general rule, I tend to avoid tiny places with ‘famous’ in their names. However one day I was pushed in by a couple friends and, since it’s their specialty, I got the corned beef sandwich and I LOVED it. I have never had corned beef before and actually liked it so much. I also liked the kinda dark bar-esque feel, a great change from the overly-sterile and bright surroundings of your average McDonald’s, or pretty much any other place, for that matter.
