Nice to have downtown. Great having a Thai place close enough for lunch downtown. Like Nicky’s, but hard lunch walk from my office. This place is a little out of the way hole in the wall. I have always had good experiences. I really like the Tom Yum noodle soup. The free samosas are tasty and nice bonus. People I’ve eaten with there have all enjoyed their noodle meals. The staff are friendly.
Meh. A new Thai spot on the southern-most part of the downtown pgh area, on 1st street, right off Smithfield Street. (this area historically is where a majority of the Asian/Chinese/Chop Suey restaurants were located in the early days of PGH.)The interior is a somewhat cold/dismal medium blue color. I ordered soup which was way too full of impossible to chew galangal and lemongrass bits that I had to spit out in my napkin to finish the soup . yikes.the soup was not as richly/densely flavored as what you’ll find @ nicky’s thai kitchen and other higher-level thai joints. the pad thai (reference standard dish ) was good but not outstanding .the mgr woman was scolding the waitresses fairly loudly and rudely, i’d say which made me feel uncomfortable . this is a big peeve of mine, restaurant mgmt/maitre de scolding employees within ear-shot of dining patrons …i will probably skip this place, from now on .
Delicious but could be hotter. I ordered my soup at a 6 and my pad thai at an 8 and both needed copious amounts of chili paste to be hot enough. Food was fresh and delicious though and service was excellent. This will become a regular stop for me now that Nicky’s is out of good walking distance for me.
Great!. Now that Siam Thai has opened on First Street, this half of the city can enjoy a more leisurely Thai lunch. That walk to Nicky’s is a killer at lunch time! Siam Thai is really, really good. The kind of excellent Thai food I’m used to from my years living in D.C. and have longed for since I moved to Pittsburgh. They are missing a few staples that we’d like to see such as Tod Mun and Panang Curry, but I really have no complaints at all. The staff is friendly and smiling, the free spring roll at lunch is a nice touch and I will be eating here on a regular basis. I’ve already been three times in the last ten days!
The food is really great and the people are really friendly. good atmosphere.
Give it a try. This place isn’t much to look at, but the food is fantastic. Myself and some of my coworkers plan on frequenting Siam for lunch from now on. Spice levels were just right. For lunch they give you a spring roll as an appetizer free of charge which was a nice touch.
Great Curry. Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday; I am excited to see more Thai downtown. This is in the spot where Sukhothai used to be. The staff was very friendly, and my red curry was DELICIOUS. If you love Thai, I’d recommend giving this place a try!
