Excellent italian-style wood-fired oven pizza. Just returned from a trip to Italy where I tried a sampling of different pizzas in various locales, and wanted to see if among the newly-established wood-fired oven pizzeria in this city had anything that came close. Ordered the most basic of all pizzas, the Margherita, which, with tax included, comes to $7.33. The dough was very good, the mozzarella cheese was real, and the crispiness of the final product, as it came out of the high-temperature wood-fired oven, was superb. Compared with the nearly identical pizza from the nearby Pizzaiolo, which charges about $15, here you have a winner.
Great customer service, fair prices and good taste. As a visiting business person who wanted good service and a quality product, I can say I received both. The young lady behind the counter was kind with a friendly smile and willing to make suggestions to enhance my order. The pizza was baked properly with the right amount of toppings and crispness. I was treated like a regular and I forgot that I was away from home for a brief time. Thanks again for the customer service, clean surroundings and attention to details.
Very impressive. Wow. Yes, it’s pricey for what it is and the pizzas are small but it’s the closest thing I’ve had in Pittsburgh to real Neapolitan style pizza. Very nice crust, fresh, clean toppings and whilst the tomato base will seem a touch sweet to those used to eating in Italy it’s still nice and balanced. And the oil is spot on; no, crushed red pepper is not the same thing and doesn’t work on Tipo 00 crusts like this.To those complaining about the lack of toppings, size, etc. You’re not wrong. But you’re not comparing like with like, either. This isn’t supposed to be American style sponge crust, heavy on the cheese pie. And yes, it’s poor value compared to getting a large pie to share whilst watching the game. This is knife and fork pizza, to be enjoyed alongside a glass of good red. Sometimes one is appropriate, sometimes the other. I like both types, and Stone is (for Pittsburgh) an outstanding example of the latter.
I don’t get what all the positive reviews are about. Pizza is soupy. Crust is so so. They rip you off on pizza size. Worst pizza I’ve had in a while including cheap chains.
Toppings?? Where are the toppongs????. Went there for lunch today with my husband. We shared a Vesuvious pizza and were extremely disappointed. There were exactly 3 little pieces of thinly sliced sandwich pepperoni, although it was supposed to be buffalo salami. The cheese was pretty much non-existent, consisting of 4 quarter size dabs on the whole pizza. The chili oil at least gave it a minimal amount of flavor but the crust part, that had the very small toppings on, was soggy. Definitely no need to return with so many good pizza joints in the burgh.
