This was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. Not only was the server rude to us, but he even appeared to bully the guy assisting him with our large party. The server ripped the wine list out my friend’s hands, took two hours to get our checks, and when I physically got up and requested the check, he made a snide comment about me as I walked away. Atrocious experience. What made it worse was that it was supposed to be my birthday celebration with friends.

Great atmosphere. Mediocre food. I expected a lot more culinary sophistication and technique for the hype. Not so good service. I asked the waiter three times for my drink.

Sophistication well worth the price. I have dined here at least 6 timessage over the course of 8 years. Each time the service, quality, presentation, gourmet meals are consistently deserve a 5 stars. Wine selection, entrees, and desserts are what you would expect to find on a much larger metropolitan city. A place to take someone you want to impress. Which is what my husband did…and still does.

Love it! Food was fanominal! Service was prompt without being rushed. Went there on a Tuesday night before a concert at the Byham. A limo will take you there and pick you up. Doesn’t get any better! My neighbor told me about how great the Carlton is and said you have to get the bread pudding which I did. Omg! Two big pieces surrounded in a buttery sauce! What the hell! Throw a scoop of vanilla ice cream on that puppy! Going back again for a special occasion as you can easily drop $150 plus tip but it’s worth it!

Excellent. The food was simply great. We started with an appetizer of lobster and crab over potato gnocchi. Fantastic! Tremendous lobster and crab flavor in a creamy sauce over the best gnocchi ever. I went with Filet Mignon and it was world-class. Very large serving, cooked perfectly to order. A beautiful cut. The atmosphere is enjoyable. The tables are nicely spaced, and you don’t have to talk over loud music or the general din that many restaurants seem to think customers want. We both had half-liters of wine, which is a nice quantity, convenient, and a good value. The service was friendly and attentive. We will ask for Bobby, our waiter, the next time we make reservations, which will be soon. To top it off, there’s a free limo waiting at the entrance to take you to the cultural center. One small drawback: they are usually not open on Sundays, unless there is a special event downtown.

A ‘Yes’ for dinner, but a ‘Must’ for dessert!. I had quite an enjoyable evening at one of Pittsburgh’s more classic restaurant, The Carlton. I actually enjoyed the old school dcor as it was a refreshing change from the trendy, more foodie type places I’ve been going to lately. Definitely a great location for a group who prefers space. And, talk about a wine list! It’s so large they store it on an iPad.For the rest of this review you’ll have to reference the pics posted Oct 2nd – I’m behind! We started w/ the Braised Beef Cheek Ravioli & Lobster Gnocchi. The gnocchi was outstanding & I could have had for a meal itself; the ravioli was just okay but I appreciated the restaurant serving them on individual plates for everyone at the table. For my meal, I had the fish which you see pictured w/ tomatoes & greens. While it was incredibly fresh, tasty & prepared perfectly I had envy over my friends Barramundi (not pictured) w/ Cajun shrimp & tomato basil risotto. Not to the fault of our waiter as he sold me on it b/c it was flown in that day but, I cant even remember what type of fish it was! I recommend the Barramundi. Now, if you’re a dessert person…you MUST come here. And, I assure you, you’ll have trouble deciding what to get! Luckily, I was with a group of five so we all ordered different items & shared. However, if you can only have one I hands down recommend the Baked Tollhouse Cookie a la Mode. I’m salivating just thinking about it – yum! It came out ooey, gooey warm w/ plenty of vanilla ice cream & whipped cream. I also thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter cake and banana cream pie, all prepared in-house.Service was also great w/ a fun yet professional waiter complete w/ a white apron. Again, a very enjoyable evening and next time I have an excuse to celebrate I am headed there for the Tollhouse Cookie!!
