Decent Mexican. They’ve improved a lot since opening. I really enjoy the colorful decor (chairs, murals, etc.). The food is good. I like the enchiladas and the shrimp fajitas are always on point. Wish they had a few more beers to offer. Overall, I enjoy Patron. Good family spot.
One word….Deeeelicious. The main course was great, the salsa they serve on the other hand…. Let’s just say, I’ve had better.. Lot better. Priced at the higher end but it seems worth it. Definitely recommend it.
Would Rather Eat McDonalds. If you like decent chips and salsa, you’re all set. They brought 3 full baskets within a span of 10 minutes, before we’d even finished the previous ones. But, the Fajita Patron was so salty, it was just about inedible. My friend with me agreed. I took it home so I could mix it in with something bland to try to tone down the salt. My friend did enjoy his vegetarian chimichanga. But, I know I won’t be coming back. The server was awkward and the music was loud and annoying.
Delicious and fun. Am a super food snob. The chicken tacos were amazing both times. Also had fajitas that were second only to food from the southwest. Great prices, clean, very nice wait staff. Will go back.
Ignore the PPG Review – Especially if You Miss West Coast Mexican. I have no idea where that terrible review in the PPG came from, except that I can only think that perhaps the reviewer hasn’t spent a lot of time on the west coast or places with larger concentrations of Latino food and has come to expect gourmet tacos with fresh cilantro and mahi mahi as the standard. Those things have their place, but if you’re a transplant or a boomerang to Pittsburgh and there are days you don’t want a gluten-free tortilla with mango salsa and you just want the kind of robust, traditionally-inspired Mexican or Latino food that you would get in the Mission or from most places in LA, this is your joint. The food is extremely well prepared, flavorful, great salsa that is simply that – salsa. No shortage of cheese or refried beans. Food combinations that taste good and make sense. In a city of lots and lots of Tex Mex gourmet, this is where you go if you want a really well prepared and traditionally flavored burrito or enchilada. I’m really thankful to have it and sad that the PPG review made me hold off for so long before I went.As a caveat though, I did not have a cocktail while there and I’ve heard mixed reviews of those. But on the food end, I was in a happy place that reminded me of my West Coast days.
Me and my family ate here and it was great. They bought avocados and made our guacamole right at the table. The service was excellent and the managers came to the table to make sure everything was good. Our margaritas were a little on the strong side but they made ours without mix and fresh squeeze d the juice at our request. Overall it was a great experience and we’ll definitely be back.
Solid Mexican: thoughtful kitchen.. Solid effort: the menu is straightforward classic Mexican without any kitschy pandering. The salsa was delicious, as was the guac. Both our our entres were excellent. Sauces were dead-on, and the shrimp in each of our dishes were cooked perfectly. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive for our mid-week lunch. We would greatly prefer to see cocktails made with freshly squeezed citrus rather than sour-mix, but that will not stop us from returning.
