Finaly tried this little gem. Wow. I lived in New England for 30 years and I know well prepared fish – and this is well prepared fish. The onion rings were crazy good. Give it a whirl. Nice folks too.
I’m Hooked. Wow! Great fried catfish and whiting and fabulous onion rings. Plus, Mr. Hooks is a helluva nice guy. He’ll be getting a lot of business from me now that I’ve discovered this gem. Sitting outside on the edge of the square and watching the ever-interesting collection of people for which Erie is well known just adds to the pleasant experience.
Great food, fresh fresh fish. Season to perfection, I bite my lip the cat fish was so delicious. Fry to order and great customer services. I rate it an 10 If u haven’t been there please go.
Best fried fish in town. Mr Hook has come up with an incredible breading on his fish. I could eat there every day. Try the Monster Whiting for an excellent example of fresh fish meeting gourmet cornmeal breading. The crunch is unlike any other fried fish I’ve ever had. I would drive miles to eat at Hook’s. My only real problem with Catfish Kitchen is the fact that there are often lots of gangster looking young males loitering inside the restaurant, yelling loudly and are sometimes aggressive. My wife was harassed inside the last time we got takeout there. I understand this is not Mr. Hook’s fault, however I would be weary about this if you look like Mr. Rogers like I do!
Mojo. Went there for the first time today,6/20/11. Let me say it is the best catfish I’ve ever had! My son is attending Gannon University in the Fall. Every time we go up, I’m stopping by!!! It’s simply the bomb diggity!
All Fried Or Nothing. The owner is a gregarious, hospitable man. It’s a small place with a few tables and chairs with an open kitchen. The food options come in fried, fried, or fried – which is a good thing, because that is what he does well. You basically pick the type of fish you want and he’ll deep fry it. It’s one of the only places I’ve found in Erie that offer fried okra, too. Every meal comes with Wonder-style white bread to make a sandwich with if you want. The only thing that concerned me was the fact that all the plates, cups, and silverware were Styrofoam or plastic. I didn’t see a recycle bin anywhere, so I’m guessing CK could be producing a lot of waste.
Cat Fish done right. The Catfish Kitchen has not only really good catfish but several other options of fish to eat. Not some where you go for a sit down meal, but some where you go to get a good meal to take home.
