Fabulous mushroom soup. You must try it. Loved the portobello and crab sandwich. My mother loved the mushroom beef stroganoff. There deserts are good too.
Dinner at Portobello. Julia Childs said once that you judge a chef by the way his chicken dish is cooked. Portobellos Chicken Hunter was inedible. Overcooked breast of chicken covered with a thick tinny tomato paste tasting sauce with minced mushroom. It was a far cry from any Chicken Hunter, Jaeger or Chasseur that I have had in different part of the world. We told the nice waitress that the chicken dish was inedible. She put it aside for the chef to see. This never happened because what made it worse was that the hostess and chef were during our entire meal catering to the couple at the table next to ours. When I told the hostess about our meal she scolded me for not telling about the problem! We had! I had a few bites of my husbands dinner which was OK. We ordered dessert. What could go wrong with Apple Strudel I thought? It was obviously micro waved, rubbery and hard to cut. With a glob of ice cream it presented itself as a sloppy uninviting mess. So dont waste your time or money at Portobello! We had excellent meals in the Verona restaurant as well as the Half Moon and the Mediterranean restaurants across from Portobello.
Why go anywhere else?. We’ve eaten at Portobellos several times now and the experience has been A+ every time. The food is excellent ( veal and fish dishes are over the top) and the service is top notch. Just last night our tables was not ready (too many diners lingering over coffee) so Sandra (owner) sent us across the street for a complimentary glass of wine while we waited. Unheard of! She and Brian (our waiter) couldn’t do enough for the four of us. Just an over-the-top experience AND it’s a BYOB. I’m thinking about moving in and paying rent. Honestly, Portobellos is a gem, don’t hesitate to make a reservation here. Sandra and Brett do it right.
Fantastic. This is hands down a fantastic restaurant in Kennett Square. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The meal. Well, my wife and I have eaten in restaurants in the US and Europe. I must say, Portobello’s is at the top of our list. The freshness and quality are second to none.
1/2/2014. We had dinner there last night, during the snowstorm-it was not crowded. The food is tremendous and the setting is not too bad either.
Portabella fries, mushroom soup, onion soup and our entrees were delicious. Service very attentive and chef/owner checked with us to be sure we enjoyed our meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and would return.
Great Restaurant – Bob N.. We were at this restaurant last night, Saturday, for the first time. The food and service were outstanding. The owners came over to our table and spent several minutes telling us about the history of the restaurant and the menu. My wife had the shrimp entre, our daughter the beef and I had the trout special. The portions were just right and delicious. I would have preferred the caesar salad to be served cold and crispy instead of at room temperature. However, that’s my personal preference for salads. Despite the 45 minute drive from Downingtown, we will be back.
