DIRTY AND RUDE. This place is pathetic, and the owners are a sad bunch. I feel bad for anybody that has to eat there, not because of the food, but because of the owners. The food isn’t too bad, but everything else is. Be smart and literally go ANYWHERE but here. They are rude, the place is dirty, service is slow, and the owners are mean.

The menu looked promising but the food didn’t deliver. The falafel wa not what I’m used to. It was pounded out and grilled taking on the taste of the grill. I really missed the parsley. The taboulle also fell short. It was bitter. I did like the spinach pie and the salad was nice and fresh.

YEERO!. After hearing a lot about Spyro Gyro, I finally decided to stop in for lunch. The interior is unique and eclectic, displaying various kinds of presumably local art, and keeping with the trendier vibe of the vastly improving Downtown Lancaster. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, and offered their assistance in explaining the menu if needed. I decided to go for the standard Authentic Gyro (5.99) and additional small Greek Salad (2.99). I also asked if I could have a small side of grape leaves to try (not on the menu), which the server happily accommodated for an extra couple of dollars. I have had a few gyros in my 5 or so years living in Lancaster, and the standard is usually the fast food quality, thin cut, overcooked gyro meat with a handful of shredded lettuce, a couple tomato slices, and some mediocre tzatziki sauce poured over it. I was very happy to find that the Authentic Gyro lived up to its name and was far better than anything I’ve had out here. The beef/lamb mix gyro meat was thick cut and tasty, the sauce was good, and instead of iceberg lettuce they used quality mixed greens, a combination which made for one excellent gyro. The Greek Salad was also good, even though it was slightly unusual in that they added carrot sticks, a sliced red beet egg and sliced beets. I happen to like all of these additions, but I could see where some may not. The grape leaves were also quite good, with the filing being moist and well seasoned. The menu also features a variety of Greek dinner entrees and desserts, which I am quite eager to try when I return.

Spyro Gyros and Salads is a great take out spot. The food is top notch and the service is fast. The chicken gyro is very large for the price and the souvlaki is very tasty. The menu is very large and all of the food seems authentically greek.

Out of Control!. The food here is so good it should be illegal! This little restaurant on Queen street helps make the heart of Lancaster city beat, you have to try the falafel and the hummus!
