Gone downhill. As a professional arts and leisure writer who champions the Lancaster County brewing scene and writes on the subject of beer/restaurants/bars for many publications it pains me to have put a local business on blast, but I mustin good faithlet others know about my dismal experience at Bubes Bottling Works. My complaints are 3-fold and will follow in depth below. Please know I was once a fan of this establishment.Service. I was expectedly late to meet my group and was never greeted when arrivingno big deal. I found my group and squeezed into an awkward seat between the two tables (not sure why the two tables could not be combined to accommodate my entire party). I waited several minutes to see a server and after a while decided to go to the bar to get a drink. This is when I checked the time. It took ten minutes for someone to appear! When the bartender arrived she shot me an awkward look and turned around. She took a minute or two to enter something into the POS and eventually turned her head to me and asked if she could get me something. I asked about the beers on tap and she was reluctant to give me a detailed description. I ordered an import.Beer. Im glad I ordered an import. Once I got back to my table(s) I was informed by my craft beer friends the beers were only about average. Hmm … Its been more than a year since Id been to Bubes and remember the beers were good. Again, after hearing the description from the bartender I opted not to try any of this brewerys offeringsPricing. The cost for everything at Bubes has become incredibly inflated. (Add-on pricing is out of hand; salad dressing is free except bleu cheese, which will cost you an extra$1. Celery and bleu cheese with 10 wings is an additional $2making the appetizer $9.95!) The beer is expensive compared to other breweries in the area. The food cost is inflated compared to the quality. When I took a closer look at our tab I was shocked and did the following investigation; I sent the info and request to every available means of communication to Bubes (except USPS). My polite requests for a response to my message were ignored via email and eventually deleted from social networking sites. Here is what I sent:I have a problem with the price I paid for chocolate milk while visiting the Bottling Works on Saturday Nov. 8.One 8 oz. Styrofoam cup from Dart, 1000 per case @ $18.49 = 0.01849One Dart 8FTL lid, 1000 per case @ $12.49 = 0.01249One Gallon (128 oz) PA State Retail-priced Milk $4.57, 8 oz @ $0.03570 per oz. = 0.28563Total Cost = 0.31661So, rounding up the max cost for this product $.32 for 8 ounces of chocolate milk. I was charged $3.15 on Saturday. Thats five cents less than a 1000 percent markup! I would like to know why? Please, provide me with an explanation of this over-inflated cost.PA minimum wage = $7.25 per hourLets say it took the server 10 minutes to take and process my order for this one item. Thats a cost of $1.20. Double the actual cost of the milk, $.64, and add to the wage. $1.84. For $1.31 you are going to lose a handful of customers for life.I received no response whatsoever. No email responses to emails I sent directly to management or through regular email. No responses on Facebook, private or otherwise. I may try Bubes again in the future, but for now I am staying away. There are many other establishments in Lancaster County providing a higher quality product and better service for less.
