Don’t let the lines discourage you — they’re quick. The ingredients are fresh, the service is friendly — and I can’t describe a sushi burrito — except to say I crave them now and Philly is the only place I’ve seen them. Guess I’ll have to go back!
I remember when Hai Street Kitchen opened its location in University City. There was a lot of hype around sushi burritos. However, I’ve found that the concoction is good in theory, but rather disappointing in reality. I have tried to shrimp tempura burrito, which was filled with vegetables. For a hefty price, I expected it to be really good. Firstly, there’s way too much rice in the burrito. It blocks out the flavor of the filling. There’s not enough sauce to keep the burrito moist, making it rather dry and flavorless. A few bites in and I was done with it. I think that if the burritos were smaller, it would taste better (less rice and more sauce).
