The Vientiane Cafe NEVER disappoints! This quaint little Thai restaurant on Baltimore avenue has a great variety of noodle dishes – and the flat noodles, which are made in house – are amazing! Pictured below is the #bahnxeo, which is an Asian-style crepe stuffed with shrimp and other fresh vegetables served with their light and zesty house sauce and a great peanut dressing. It’s the perfect appetizer for even the least adventurous foodies that are trying Thai for the first time as well as those that are more familiar with traditional Thai street fare. Every time I go, I’m sure to order the #mangostickyrice. Besides it being my favorite Thai dessert, Vientiane serves up the perfect portion of sticky rice-to-coconut cream ratio! They also have chocolate banana egg rolls that are another great dessert option.

Above and beyond!. On our anniversary, I was out of town and away from my wife who had a long night ahead of work ahead of her. I decided to surprise her with delivery from her favorite Philly restaurant (that should be enough of a recommendation for Vientiane right there) so I called but they dont do delivery. However, after asking about maybe having them drop the food in a cab, their wonderful manager, Sunny, offered to drive dinner over to Center City herself. That was so thoughtful and kind, but what was even more over the top was that they also are cash only and I only had a credit card being in another state. So not only did they make a fantastic dinner for my wife, but Sunny took time out of her day to personally deliver it and with the good faith that I would pay at a future point! Lovely people. Great food. Truly a fantastic place.

Good service, delicious dishes. I had dinner here with two friends who live in Philly. They recommended it after I told them that I like to eat at Thai restaurants. The menu is pretty standard for a Thai restaurant – good mix of curries, stir fries, and noodle dishes. I ordered the sweet sticky rice on the advice of my server. It was indeed sticky but not particularly sweet. That was the only disappointing part about my meal, though. My dining companions shared the red and yellow curries, and they told me that they were well prepared.

It’s all Good!. Everyone in the hood already knows about this tiny Laotian gem. The food and service are great. I prefer to dine in during the cold & dark winter months. We find it sometimes too warm inside during summer so we call for a pick up order (try the Yum salad w/tofu) to enjoy on the front porch or at the park.

Food uneven, unpredictable. I live in the neighborhood and have dined here several times. It’s not every day you get Laotian cuisine, although this place bills itself as Laotian/Thai. Its a tiny place and popular, so finding a table on Fri or Sat nights can be tricky. I am not impressed with the food here … sometimes it is very good, most of the time it’s mediocre and I have had some awful dishes as well. The Pad Thai is the worst I ever had, but I’m fussy and I’ve been to Thailand about 5 times. On the other hand the Tamerind Duck was excellent: not an easy dish to prepare.
