Good place to sit and have coffee. Ok, so I am going to say upfront that CTR coffee is not really the best coffee I’ve ever had. It’s probably just as good as Starbucks (yeah I’m a coffee snob and think Starbucks isn’t all that hot). The primary reason I like CTR on Walnut Street is that you can work on your laptop for hours, it’s big and open, and they open the front up when there’s nice weather which allows for a nice breeze. It’s a good place to take kids because it’s loud enough that you don’t have to worry (too much) about your kids distracting other patrons if they act up a little. It’s also good for people watching. So, yeah, it’s not the bestest tasting coffee out there but it’s a great place to stop in, read the paper, get some work done, and hang out.

Wish i loved it. The coffee is pretty standard in terms of price + taste, and i’ve never had problems with the staff (never overly nice or mean, sometimes on the slow side). i would never go out of my way for coffee tree, but its location makes it a nice alternative to the nearby chains (i.e. starbucks, bruegger’s, etc). the inside is cool, but it’s fairly impossible to find a seat. overall, there are definitely much better coffeehouses in the area.

Coffee Tree Roasters…Great coffee, but not nice to their employees!. The coffee here is very good – delicious in fact. It may be my favorite in pittsburgh. However, I was so dismayed to hear on my last visit from a barista that they are not permitted to accept tips and that there is no place for them on the reciepts! I am not a barista. But I do know how hard they work. It is abusive to pay people so little and disallow them to accept tips for a profession which depends upon them. I have told others about this and i will probably continue to in the future. This city is full of people who work in the service industry, and word moves quickly. I am not sure if i am willing to return to a place that puts such a low value upon those they employ.

Nice coffee house. Expensive, but if you’re getting coffee out somewhere you might as well get it here. The regular coffee is well brewed and delicious, medium roast. My girlfriend got some frozachino, I think it was a frozen hot chocolate, it tasted like a very good chocolate milkshake, just not as thick. This was a nice stop between breakfast at Pamelas and snacks as Prantl’s.
