Girl behind the counter will call you names if you don’t tip her. I was insulted in your store yesterday (5-22-15), and wont ever be back. After I spent $25 on two mugs and coffee, your clerk called me a jagoff for not tipping. She even wrote a sign about it, and taped it to the counter for all to see.I dont leave tips at coffee shops, and never will. Just because you put a tip jar on the counter doesnt mean I feel a sense of obligation. I have always thought of that as ridiculous especially when the coffee is already overpriced.Shes not a waitress, bellboy, or taxi driver. Maybe she should Google tipping guidelines, and click the first link. Note that for tip jars it says no obligation. From now on, Ill spend my money at the Starbucks across the street. You already have the lowest rating of all the coffee shops in the South Side. Gee, I wonder why.
Over Priced. Although the atmosphere is retro and cool which I did like, I went there to grab a quick dessert and found out that they were very expensive for small slices of cheesecake that I could have gotten from the freezer section of Giant Eagle. I guess next time I should just go for the coffee.
Art, coffee, friends, family. I love the place. I spend way too much time here. It’s big enough to lose/hide yourself in, and one of the few spots that still allows smoking (in one of the three rooms and the patio), thank the lord. The staff is quick and, if you treat them well, very friendly. The coffee is pretty delicious, and the soup is excellent. There’s wireless, a bookshelf with games and some books, art all over, pinball machines, and vending machines with non-traditional fare.As to the clientele? I always see a good mix of students, families, artists, and people who are working from their laptops. Yeah, you’re not going to love everyone who comes through the door. Well guess what? They’re probably not going to personally interact with you. If something happens that offends or causes folks uneasiness, tell the barista and that person will take care of the situation.
Funky and fantastic! Coffee is good, food is good. I’m sorry they have started selling booze.
It’s on and poppin’. Friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks. so go to beehive instead.
Weird but good. I’m a young person but I too find myself sort of in awe of some of the clientele that come through The Beehive’s doors. I don’t see it as a negative thing, however. The whole establishment is founded on a certain weirdness that works. It’s a kitschy coffee shop and seems to come right out of Portland. The coffee is very good and varied. They have Thai Iced tea which is delicious but I usually go for an iced mocha. It’s never too chocolaty — a perfect balance between the espresso, the milk, and the chocolate. I love their little pies for sale at the counter. The pecan is incredible.
Great coffee. I’ve never had the food at The Beehive but the coffee is amazing. Their chai tea is the best I’ve ever had. The crowd is mostly younger high school kids trying to fit in but dont let that discourage you from trying it out.Better than Starbucks.
