I usually go here a few times per month, and typically have an above average experience. Today, however, who I believe to be the owner/manager just spilled a cup of coffee and it went all over my boss’s dress slacks. He didn’t even apologize. Everyone has bad days, so I will definitely go back. I just personally believe that there is a great opportunity for restaurants to set themselves above the rest if they’d pride themselves on customer satisfaction, specifically in the Pittsburgh area. Good coffee. Good baked foods.
I tried Big Dog before my workout this morning instead of normal chain shops i go to. Not good. $10 for oatmeal and a soy latte, the latte was awful, waaayy too much soy milk and the oatmeal was glue consistency, barely a visable oat. I don’t want to workout, i want to back to bed after that. Panara bread is cheaper and i get steel cut oats and a fair amount of espresso in my latte.
What a gem!!. I don’t have too many opportunities to get to the Southside, but when I do this is always a priority due to my love of their Mocha Bianca. Parking is pretty tough, so I usually walk over from the Southside Works after some shopping. Great atmosphere, awesome coffee, and usually a few dogs to pet 🙂
Lovely atmosphere. This place is very cute and cozy and the coffee is delicious. Sometimes I dream about the banana chocolate scone.

Favorite in city!. The owner is always so friendly and the coffees are great! plus it doesn’t hurt that I can bring my dog in for a milkbone while i work and such!
Best(?) coffee in Pittsburgh. This is probably my favorite place in Pittsburgh to get coffee. Taza D’Orro (Highland Park) and Commonplace (Squirrel Hill) both have coffee that is as good (maybe even better) than Big Dog Coffee. But in addition to the excellent cappuccino and french press at Big Dog is the overall ambiance. It’s very quaint and quiet and just a nice place to sit in. They have a small outdoor patio, and they have a ton of homemade-style baked goods. This is also practically the only place in Pittsburgh that you can get a NORMAL SIZED biscotti with your coffee, and if I recall correctly they go for $0.50 per piece. The biscotti is also not overly sweet. Now if they could get some anise-flavored biscotti’s there I’d be all set!
