That was the most average sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Ordered a classic with water. Tomatoes and lettuce were an extra 25 cents each. Generic greasy meat taste. Disappointed because I wanted to like it.

The people who say it’s horrible service are stupid. It’s not a sit down restaurant. It’s a hole in the wall sandwich shop that serves up steak hoagies to drunk college kids. Wth do you expect? That being said I love this place. There are so many options it’s hard to choose. I normally go with pepper jack cheese and peppers. The buns are so fresh and chewy. I come here whenever I can because they have the best cheesesteak in PITTSBURGH. People need to stop comparing it to Philly!
A Joke. I stopped here a few weeks back to try a cheese steak. The guy at the counter claimed that these were as good as Pat’s or Geno’s in Philly. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! For starters, they have about half the meat of a Pat’s or Geno’s. You have to order extra meat at this place just to notice there is even meat on it. They claim to use Ribeye but that’s a bunch of BS too. Philly is definitely misrepresented in this case. If Pat were to drive down from Philly and and try this crap he would immediately hurl and Geno is probably rolling in his grave every time these tool boxes claim to be as good as his
I wanted to Love it but….. I just can’t say I enjoyed my expereince today at Southside Steaks.I ordered a cheesesteak with mushrooms, onions and whiz. It was pretty obvious the second I got my sandwhich that the sandwhich was thin on meat and the bread was very dry. Let’s face it, the bun makes the sandwhich and this bun was terrible. It’s was crazy dry and the sandwhich pretty much fell aprt in my hand as I tried to eat it. The meat itself was not to bad, but again I wish there was more of it. I was in Philly two weeks ago and had had some Philly Cheesesteaks at Geno’s and Pat’s for the very first time. They were both excellent even if everyone thinks Tony Luke’s is better than both. Anyway I was not aware that Pittsburgh had any place that offered whiz for their sandwhiches. I was thrilled to hear Southside Steak was just such a place. Now that I have had a Southside Steak cheesesteak I wish I would have walked down the street to go to Fat Head’s instead.Combine this place with Peppi’s bread and you would have a very good sandwhich. That being said I would take Peppi’s or Uncle Sam’s ina second over Southside Steaks.I also had the chilli cheese fries. They were ok but nothing to write home about. The chilli was very thin. They were just ok.
A guilty pleasure – sometimes a good idea sometimes not.
