Not a bad place to grab some pizza quick. However, with Mineo’s just a couple of buildings over, it’s difficult to choose to eat here instead. The ambiance is far better at Mineo’s, and their pizza is not easy to trump. So Aiello’s must play to their strengths to stay in the game; like faster service times and longer operating hours (especially late at night).
Downward Spiral. I’ve been a patron of Aiello’s for several decades. The last few years has seen this place take a serious nose dive. It coincided with Joe’s death it seems. Toppings and cheese have gone from plentiful to a mere after thought. Its not headed in the right direction and there are many other people I know who feel the same way. Mineo’s will benefit greatly from this in the long run, if not already. Hopefully the kid gets his head out of his ass and goes back to what got Aiello’s referred to as one of the city’s best in the 1st Place
Canned mushrooms and soggy crust.. Certainly nothing great here. Average sauce, limp crust, but unforgivable to me, in a $30 + pizza: slimy canned mushrooms. Total deal breaker, and inexcusable. It really defined this place. I recommend staying away.
Overpriced for average execution. There are better pie joints in squirrel hill.
Dislike. Over Priced, Under Performed. Failure On All Measures. Passionate dislike. $18.75 for a medium, cheese, onion, and mushroom pizza. The box is taped closed so you can’t see the pizza until it’s too late. Cash only annoyance. Flavor is not included with the cost of the pizza. I used most of my Parmesan, red pepper, and oregano, just to salvage this traumatic experience. The center of the pizza molded into the wax paper forming a grotesque Stromboli of cold, tasteless toppings. The mushrooms are genetically modified to only have the visual appearance of a ‘mushroom’. On the only non-negative note, the crust around the perimeter was passable: firm, floury, not soggy or greasy. In the center however, the crust had the structure of a wet paper towel. Under no circumstance would I recommend patronizing this place for pizza at the current prices.
Closest thing I have had to a proper East Coast pie. Great crust. Right amount of cheese and sauce. It’s simple and reminds me of the great pizza I am able to get when I visit NYC and New Jersey.
Not what it used to be. Went this weekend and paid $35 ($30+tax&tip) for a large Mediterranean Pizza (white sauce with garlic sauce, onions, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, feta and provolone cheese), ordered with no mushrooms.Got home to find it had mushrooms and instead of tomatoes, big spoonful’s of canned tomato. So it was kind of like white pizza with bland red sauce covering it. Really a big disappointment–won’t be ordering from them again, especially considering that I can think of 3 other pizza places within 3 blocks.
