The Spicy Beef Casserole was pretty good, definitely better than the average Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh. The dishes are relatively more expensive (about one and a half times the average), however the portion is huge and can easily be eaten over two sittings. The restaurant is nice enough to dine in, and they also do home delivery for $1 extra. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the mood for some good Chinese food.
Saw this restaurant on the best of list, and decided to try it. If you love Schezuan cuisine then you will love this place. I like how they created a picture menu, so you can see what to expect. Nice flavors and very reasonable pricing. I’d recommend they clean up the bathroom and keep the waitresses who are lounging around out of guest’s view. Will be back to try more.
Surprisingly good meal, the dishes from the traditional Chinese menu were tasty and fresh – BBQ eggplant, cucumber starter, lamb in cumin, fish with pickled pepper and Chicken Chengdu were really good & spice level was distinct but not excessive – great addition to Pittsburgh Chinese restaurant scene, in a forgotten part of Squirrel Hill. Anyway, will be glad to return & try more
Drove 40 miles round trip to try this place. Read about it in the local magazine and was excited to try the traditional menu, as we are so tired of the Americanized version of Chinese cuisine. Have lived around the world and other states. We have had excellent to very poor Chinese food over the years. It was with great disappointment that Chengdu Gourmet was by far the worst that we have ever had. Ordered three different dishes, and each were so salty that we could only eat a couple of bites. Would not recommend this place.
Fortunately for us, the *real* menu (as opposed to the americanized one) has pictures and and english subtitles. The excellent food, gracious service and incredibly generous portions (the three plates and one appetizer we ordered would have fed five or six adults comfortably) more than made up for the lackluster decor.Very highly recommended!
