Nice local curry spot. Curry on Murray is fabulous. First time there I ordered the Red Curry and the sweet sticky rice with mango for takeout and everyone in my office loved it. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded and the hostess was upbeat and pleasant. The curry wasn’t as spicy as I expected ( I ordered extra spicy option) but it still had some kick to it. I will definitely be going back in the future.
There were six of us. 40 minutes after placing our order we asked our waitress where it was. She apologized and said they had a big take out order and it would be 15 minutes for our appetizers. We went to Mineos. The owner did bring a gift certificate to us at Mineos. I doubt I’ll use it.
Noisy, Bad Service. The birthday person who was up in our birthday group picked Curry on Murray for his restaurant yesterday. He made reservations. One of the group decided to go and get some wine, since they said they had free corkage. What they didn’t tell us is that they were going to charge us $2 per wine glass, so the wine ended up costing an additional $10 so they could bring the wine glasses. I don’t think they had enough of help there because the service was sporadic. When the waitress was there, she was attentive, but she wasn’t there much of the time. The easiest way to get what you needed was to get up and go to the counter and ask for it. As the evening progressed, it got extremely noisy in the restaurant. They also had the window open, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise added in too. I had a splitting headache by the end of the evening, which made things very unpleasant for me. The food was OK, but nothing spectacular. Aside from a few salads, they weren’t very strong on vegetables, which I found a disappointment. I had the pad thai, and actually felt quite unpleasant from it a few hours later throughout the entire night, although maybe my system can’t handle pad thai. They told us we would get separate checks, but then gave us one check for the entire group and asked us to split it by the number in our group. That wasn’t what had asked for. It took a while after that to figure out what each person owed which made the unpleasant, noisy experience last even longer. This place is probably OK when it ‘s not too busy and if you like really hot, spicy, noodles or rice with your choice of meat, but for someone who wants something simple without too much seasoning and a place where you can hear your friends talk, you might want to look elsewhere. I know I’m not going back.
Went to Curry on Murray with the wife for a rare meal without the kids. I was a little concerned with the few folks in the restaurant, but it was a Wednesday night. The menu was easy to understand and had a nice variety. Decided in the fries dumplings (nice delicate balance of flavors and textures with neither the shrimp nor the chicken overpowering the other) Pas Thai (should have ordered hot, medium wasn’t enough kick) and Pineapple Curry(delicious, sweet, spicy.)Friendly service, reasonable prices ($10 a plate). I will definitely recommend.
The green curry is wonderful. Try the ka prau with ground pork. It is addicting. Spring rolls are light and tasty
A fine local Thai. Ahh – a place where freshly prepared dishes, focused, complex flavors, good service and BYOB could keep me wandering back many times. Steamed chicken dumplings were light and tasty. Curry puffs were the best I’ve had for a long time. A thick, lemon grassy masaman curry was absolutely delicious, and a tofu and eggplant stir-fry, served as ordered (ie spicy) and was maybe better than the curry. With tip, $45 fro two, including BYOB, is a bargain. This is good Thai food, the best we’ve had in Squirrel Hill. So far. gortonator-on-wine.blogspot.com
Moo Sen (Fried marinated pork strips) is very a yummy appetizer, especially with sticky rice. Follow that with their Pad Thai (that tastes just like the real one in Bangkok’s night street), that has already made my day. Their Thai iced coffee is the best and it is even better than the famous Thai iced tea. Finish the meal with mango over sweet sticky rice (the waiter said it is only available in some seasons because of the mango’s sweetness), and I had a very good time there.
