Good for Pittsburgh, Mediocre Waitstaff. I came here because my Korean friend told me that it is the best Korean joint in town, though given that this is Pittsburgh, I took that recommendation with a grain of salt. My friend and I went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, around 1pm. After a long while, the waiter finally took our order. The two of us ordered spicy bulgogi, octopus bibimbap, and tteokbokki. Everything came out fine, no major complaint. (I guess the side dishes are not refillable, even though we only got 5 instead of 6 — 3 each as advertised.) From that point on, we were completely ignored. We had to go up to the counter to get the check and pay. Maybe that’s how it works here, but given the price tag, I expected a warmer waitstaff rather than some surly chaps who acted like they were doing us a great favor.TL;DR: food was fine (though a bit expensive), and service was terrible. Would not come back.
Best Korean Restaurant in Pittsburgh, we go often with friends, and did two very successful parties, food was always great, owners generous, and Karaoke a bonus!
Read the fine print carefully. Good food although pricey. Eight of us enjoyed eating lunch just a few days ago. We couldn’t help but notice the jaw dropping store policy (I uploaded a picture of this, as did someone else) printed on the last page of the menu. They sound arrogant, draconian, and presumptuous. I will not come here again and will actively discourage others to patronize this place.
My wife and I ate there and we both thought food was authentic and very good.
Best Korean food in Pittsburgh. The dolsot bibimbap was very delicious, and all the ingredients/sides were high quality (especially the kimchi!). The rice was crunchy at the bottom of the dolsot, which I very much enjoyed. We also had the fried pork and kimchi dumplings, which were very good as well. Finally, the complementary cold tea with pine nut at the end was fantastic and a great finishing touch to the meal. They also have a few micros on their beer menu, which was a pleasant surprise.
Not worth it! A long-time lover of Indian, Thai, African and other ethnic foods, I was excited for my first Korean cuisine experience at Green Pepper. What a bummer! The atmosphere was nice (but too cold inside for Pittsburgh’s recent weather!) My first problem was with the menu. It was long and confusing, with little or no explanations of dishes, let alone ingredients. The servers were prompt, but not helpful in describing or suggesting menu items. And nearly everything, appetizers included, was over $15! So finally I ordered something (for $18) and had no idea what to expect. The food came on a big tray with lovely presentation. The main dish was nothing special, though I did like the spiciness. It was served with 3 cold noodle and cold vegetable sides, which were a little salty and just, well, weird. The miso soup was lukewarm and inedible. At the end of the meal, I couldn’t figure out what was so loved by many at Green Pepper. The prices are outrageous and it’s clear that they think they’re just the coolest, hippest thing to hit Pittsburgh. Korean food is not for me, and neither is Green Pepper.
