Good stuff. I’ve had several dishes here and they have all been delicious. I like that you can get brown rice instead of white rice. Make sure you ask for her homemade hot sauce, it’s incredible.
A friend of mine from China took me to lunch today at Ka Mei. It was the freshest Chinese cuisine that I’ve ever encountered. It was authentic and not an American-ized version of Chinese food. It was clean, it is family owned, and the food was both delicious and beautiful! I like spice and could have used a bit more, but will ask for more spice next time. I recommend the pork hot pot! Can’t wait to take my husband.
I wanted to like this place…. But sadly, I will have to give it a negative review, overall. I have had take out from them twice, and never dined here, but it did seem fairly clean and bright, mixed with a lobby that has pictures of many of their specialties adorning the walls. Though a bit tacky, it was very nice to see what the dishes looked like. The vegetables were very fresh, and that was the best thing about this place. However, both times (I got about 7-8 different dishes total) the meals simply lacked flavor. When I have to apply fair amounts of salt and soy sauce to enjoy the meal, I am disappointed.
A Great Evening. Last night was my first meal at Kamei, and definitely not my last! We ate at the restaurant, and had the place to ourselves for most of the time. The service was excellent, and we received the food promptly. Our crab rangoon appetizer was fantastic, and my entree of sweet and sour chicken was wonderful! It was crispy but still well seasoned. The General Tso was also perfectly crispy and saucy. It was priced as normal asian food restaurants are ten dollar dinners and 6.50 for lunches. I will definitely return!
One of my favorite chinese food places in the Pittsburgh area!. I love this place. It’s simple, small, and very tasty. The lady, though a little hard to understand sometimes, is nice and takes car of you fast and efficiently. The prices are very reasonable (remember to bring cash they do not accept cards). From the Chow Fun to the Congees, the food is pretty authentic to Cantonese Style cooking. Fave dishes: Beef Brisket Pan Fried Noodles, Beef Brisket with Vegetable Braised Noodle, and the Chinese Green or Chinese Broccoli.Would I recommend this place? YES!
Tiny and good. General Tso’s tofu. NOM! It was very very good. The eggroll was also impressive. The lady who runs the place is so adorable and efficient, too. It’s a tiny little restaurant, but it’s sincere and the food is good. You may end up waiting around 10 or 15 minutes for it, but it’s very fresh and piping hot!
Favorite Chinese food. This is our absolute favorite place for Chinese food in Pittsburgh. My husband’s family is from Hong Kong, and this is the only place in Pittsburgh where we can find good quality versions of some of the favorites he grew up with. I highly recommend the Beef Chow Fun and the Eggplant/Tofu hot pot. We get them both almost every time we are there. The owner, Carol, is wonderful, and she definitely treats you well (e.g., remembering your favorites, bringing out the beverages/condiments you normally order, etc.) if you are a frequent customer. It’s a no frills restaurant, but the food is delicious.
