Disappointment. Was excited to try a new (to us) place in downtown State College. From the moment we walked in our experience was odd. The restaurant had a strange odor. There were three small tables already full of guests eating their salads. There’s a long counter with stools where a few others sat. The last four seats were taken up by a laptop, file folders of papers, and other odds and ends. This left just two spots open, enough for myself and my lunch partner. We ordered two salads, a bowl of soup, and two drinks. The ice-maker in the soda machine wasn’t working so our iced-tea was warm. Like, just brewed warm. The soup (chicken Thai) was just broth, red and green peppers, and some cubed chicken. Our salads were huge and full of ingredients that I would use at home, but something just wasn’t right about mine and it was all I could do to get half of it down. We refilled our drinks with cold lemonade and then threw that away because it didn’t taste good either. Left and went to Starbucks to get some proper iced tea. $28 for our meal. I won’t go back. There are plenty of other options in town that aren’t as…..weird.

Vegans Rejoice! (meat eaters can too!!). The Sweet Potato soup was one of the many vegan soups Fiddlehead has thrilled me with since they opened this past spring. It is dangerous to follow their Twitterfeed because everyday a new, fresh, tempting soup will be announced and taunt me until I go and eat some. I have never been disappointed in the quality of food nor thoughtful crafting of flavors in the daily soups.
