Food good, service not. Food here is surprisingly good, tho avoid the margaritas at all costs — how can they be this bad, tasting either like cough syrup or cleaning fluid? But the service, especially when the students pack in on weekends, is nothing short of terrible.

Need to improve margaritas!. I wish that Mad Mex would put as much effort into their margaritas as they put into their decorations!!! The margarita was sickly sweet and didn’t have much tequila at all – tasted really unbalanced. Food was decently good (they have a lot of veggie options), but was a little on the expensive side. And their service was super slow, despite it not being at all busy.

Pennsyltucky Tofu. Firm cubes of warm tofu with a soy and sweet coating of sauce. They are seasoned up with cilantro, peanuts and mung bean sprouts and the portion is huge!

Great happy hour specials. The wings ate surprisingly awesome! Good, not great food… but what would you expect from a college town bar/mexican restaurant. I would def recommend it!

More bar than restaurant. We stopped at Mad Mex for an early dinner on a Saturday night. We enjoyed our meals (chicken chimichanga and chicken tacos fresca) but it was very loud and dark even at 5pm. The restaurant is connected to a hotel but there is no nearby parking just to go there for dinner – we had to park a couple of blocks away. I went to the ladies room in a hallway between the restaurant and hotel and found myself locked out of the restaurant! I had to wait for someone else to open the door from the opposite side to get back in. Obviously this is so underage kids can’t slip past the front door to enter, but it was a rather strange situation to be in. This might be a better place to have drinks on the outdoor patio than for dinner, although we did like our meals.

Nice Outdoor beer garden. Menu is more Organic/health conscious Mexican. Outdoor beer garden area is nice. This is in the Days Inn hotel in downtown State College. Unfortunately, going past the bouncer area is like passing a TSA checkpoint. Have your ID papers ready to prove who you are. Margaritas are good here, Parking is nearly impossible.
