The Tavern is dark. It is like being on a lower deck of a pirate ship. The prices are on the high side, and the interesting appeal is that you can have as many sides as you like. Just order it and it comes. They’re prompt too, and side portions are appropriate. We dined as part of a large group which comes here periodically. After my first experience, I’m still trying to figure out the appeal.The food is pretty good. I had the veal parmesan. It was served on top of a bed of angel hair pasta with marinara. It was well fried and crisp, topped with a browned slice of provolone (I suspect). I tried the cole slaw and fries as sides. The fries were not fresh cut, but they were hot and fresh from the fryer. That’s the important thing to me.I don’t think I’ll come back unless I’m invited to along with a group.

I had never eaten snails before this. The escargot were really good, and my entree was fine, but the sides were a little lacking in quality. The situation with the sides is kinda confusing anyhow, because they bring out a bunch of tiny bowls with all the different sides you order (even if that bowl contains…3 french fries?) – and some of them are okay, but others were lukewarm or not very flavorful. I really like the section of the restaurant in the back near the fireplace – even if it did make us smell like a campfire. I am glad that we checked it out, and I do expect to go back again, but I would definitely go there more often if they either lowered the prices a little or increased the quality of the food a bit.
