Great Restaurant. My family is local to Newport and we all love the sushi there, very fresh lots of different rolls and authentic Korean food to choose from! BYOB is really nice and since the liquor store is behind the restaurant is easy and so much cheaper than order in drinks at a restaurant! would highly recommend to any sushi fans!
I recently went there on 13 April during the off season and found the place…average. We ordered the Newport and Dragon rolls, which were average, but bellow expectations for a restaurant overlooking Thames St. The appetizer seaweed salad (featuring fake crab meat for some reason) was decent. But we couldn’t get over the cheap feeling balsa-wood chopsticks or the terrible, terrible service. For a far better experience, I’d recommend heading over to Broadway and trying Tokyo House.
Good? Not really.. I went here knowing it wasn’t Japanese sushi – I should have known better. Sometimes you can get good sushi even if the chef/owner is not Japanese. Unfortunately that is not the case here.Don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible – it’s just not really that good. I’ve seen several reviews where people love this place. Can’t really imagine why – it’s nothing special, certainly below average. I’ve been eating sushi for many, many years. I’ve had good, bad, and middling sushi – for the area, I really expected better. For those who want to know – head up to Portland, ME and go the Benkay – now THAT’s good sushi for a smaller NE city.By the way – the ‘famous’ spicy crab hand roll is utter crap. No flavor – just a giant load of hot sauce mixed in with imitation crab. Service – not good either – and the place wasn’t even close to being busy. If I want tea at a sushi place, I generally expect green tea – they have black chinese tea here – not a bad tea, but just one more nail…..won’t be back.
