Excellent Lunch during Restaurant Week 2013. It is restaurant week in Newport (11/1 – 11/10, 2013), so we have been trying to get to places not previously visited. The Mooring has been on our list for too long, so we booked a table (via OpenTable) for lunch. As is often the case during Restaurant Week we were, at first met with a bit of skepticism from our server (will there be a generous tip?). However, once we ordered a decent wine (they do have a tempting, extensive list), along with some extras (oysters) not on the special 3-course lunch menu, all was cheery! And yes, there was a generous tip at meal’s end. First CourseMy wife & I each enjoyed the Autumn Greens salad. This was a slightly lighter version, missing a couple of ingredients, compared to the regular menu offering by the same name. It was fresh, crisp and very enjoyable with sherry vinaigrette. Main DishA. Pork & Clams (see photo) – Native littleneck clams, braised pork, potatoes, sofrito broth, garlic butter, focaccia; a truly delicious meal in taste and balance, not too heavy yet certainly not lite.B. Open-Faced Turkey (see photo) – Smoked North Country turkey, muenster cheese, bacon, fried egg, basil pesto, toasted artisan bread; a heavy meal full of tastes (and protein) working in concert, thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts, sharedA. Apple Bread Pudding – Butterscotch sauce, vanilla ice cream = EXCELLENT!B. Lemon Sorbet – very, very good; served with THREE scoops, which was entirely too much for us, but I suppose more is better than less.
A real class act. Nice menu with some really interesting flavors. (Try the Bag of Donuts over drinks.) Service is attentive without being intrusive. All in all, well worth the wait even in season.
The mooring is excellent espically for seafood.
Good restaurant with a few good dishes my favorite is the scallop chowder. But it’s another tourist trap.
Good menu, bag of doughnuts was tasty but can do with less dough. Expensive! Water views unbeatable!
Great food, super service, very good dark and stormies! Nice bar and friendly people! We would definitely return!
Was there August 2010. Tried getting to make reservations they suggested to wait on walk ins. They do have great food and the atmosphere is nice too . Romantic if you want it to be just ask to sit outside dockside at sundown. Wish we could have gone again . ;(
