Great vegan lunch or dinner spot. A restaurant that brings you spiced popcorn and a hot towel before the meal is one you should visit.Intimate enough for a date, yet also great for a group of friends.Very delicious, hearty portions, great atmosphere, and all for less than $10 including tip (for veg entrees). You can’t go wrong with any vegetarian entree, or split the sampler with a friend.

Such fantastic Ethiopian food. I’m from Chicago home to many awesome Ethiopian eateries and this place holds it’s own to the best I’ve had. What makes Abyssinia really special is their commitment to local farmers and using local organic foods. Its BYOB (huge plus) and the service knows the menu extremely well. I never even look at the menu and they always bring a fantastic meal. Check it out!

Excellent in and delivery!. I have dinted at Abyssinia for dinner and lunch, and received delivery from the restaurant. The food is amazing, as well as the service. I am a food snob, and can still say that I highly recommend Abyssinia.

Why haven’t I gone there sooner?. Over the years, I’ve only ever visiting Ethopian/Eritrean restaurants (in NYC or Washington DC) as part of a group. Even though I’d heard of Abyssinia a while ago, I was reluctant to head there on my own — it is, after all, a culture that values eating as a communal experience. Today I fought that reluctance and had lunch at Abyssinia — and found a new favorite lunch spot.I decided to wet my feet with a vegetarian combo, no special requests. The combo included a good variety of foods, each with a different flavor profile. The spices were delicious but very mild — next time I’ll definitely ask for it to be spicier. (I’m reluctant to ask for that on my first visit somewhere — I’ve learned my lesson about that.) The ingredients seemed to be of high quality and the injera … ah, the injera. Have I mentioned that I’ll be back there next week?Because Abyssinia is a small restaurant, I didn’t feel at all unwelcome or out of place as a lone diner. I’m looking forward to trying some of their meat and fish dishes, especially after seeing and smelling the Doro Wat that went to the table next door. The staff was friendly and helpful (bringing more injera without being asked) and very welcoming. Finally, should cost be a concern, all menu items were very reasonably priced.

I had the veggie platter and it was delicious. The menu was surprisingly limited, but from what I gathered from the people I went with, it was all amazing. We’ll be back.

Bleh. I was excited to try this place because I have had only one other experience with Ethiopian food… I guess the rule that you eat with your eyes first doesn’t apply to this genre. What the dishes lacked in presentation was not made up for in flavor. I felt like I eating baby food wrapped in soggy sour dough diaper. The greens, though, were pretty good and reminded me of Southern preparation. Not my cup of tea over all.

Great spot. What a great little find! The creative end is a refugee family, while their english is not great their cooking skills are amazing. The food is fabulous and fresh. The meat samosa was crazy good and I opted for the meat & veg. combo which was a great sampling of nearly everything (including a wonderful salad) on their menu for only $15. It’s definitely worth a visit…or two.
