Nice eats good service…does it get any better. I would call this a traditional Italian restaurant. House gravy is spectacular. Though was not on dessert menu, we asked for cannoli, bang had it made fresh. Now that’s Italian.

The ambiance, the food, the entire, dinning experience surpassed my very high expectations, the staff was incredibly managed, the food was a privilege to eat the plating was beautifully executed! Valet was a bit slow!

We were on Fed Hill heading to the Old Canteen but we had a lapse of memory as they are closed on Tuesday’s. So we went to Camille’s and from the moment we walked in, it was absolutely phenomenal. The decor was extravagant, the service incredible, and most of all, the food was divine. We started with the antipasto platter. The tomato and mozzarella with a balsamic glaze, an assortment of Italian meats, hearts of artichoke, stuffed olives, and seasoned peppers were heavenly. I then had the double cut pork chop. Grilled to perfection, served under sliced baby tomatoes and peppers, drizzled with sometype of sauce, this is what I would request if it was my last meal. I was so stuffed from the large portions but could not stop eating. You must visit Camille’s. This is the truly authentic Italian that built Federal Hill’s reputation. Coming from a huge Italian family, I’d say it’s like the food my grandmother makes but honestly, it’s even better!

As a child I ate regularly at Camille’s. Although it has changed hands several times and the decor is no longer the same, the food almost as good as the original owners served.

Average food, far overpriced. — Restaurant visit on April 4, 2008The restaurant is clean and upscale in table decoration and service. It’s large, so we found a table without delay on a Friday at around 7:30pm. The quality of the food was reasonable but unimpressive, not nearly justifying the high prices. I had an appetizer of Shrimp wrapped in prosciutto on spinach leaves ($14). The prosciutto was quite fatty and the salad was ridiculously overdressed with oil and sugar. I asked for a new bed of spinach, and they did provided a more reasonably dressed one without complaint. I then had the beef filet mignon with Barolo reduction and potato and crisped onions ($41). The steak was hailed on the menu, but it was at best average. Not served medium-rare towards rare, as I had requested, but medium, and a bit over-aged (resulting in a dusty note in the taste of more cooked parts). The Barolo reduction was nice but nothing special. For dessert I had the Tiramisu (~$9), again average. The wine list is quite extensive, but there are very few good values. The wines start around $35 dollars and quickly increase as one goes up the quality level. The bottle we had, a 2004 Ruffino Chianti classico was $50 (in the menu a 2002), retails around $20-25. My wine by the glass, as an aperitif, was a fine but unspectacular Pinot Grigio ($8). It was served in a small, thick-rimmed glass (at most 5 oz.) but filled to an extent that swirling was impossible. The glasses that came with the bottle were larger, thinner-rimmed and of higher quality. All in all, serviceable food but ridiculously overpriced. The final hit was that, as we ended our dinner, blastingly loud live music was playing in the bar, completely breaking with the professed high-level restaurant atmosphere.
