Good food. Got the admirals platter. Best seasoned and breaded seafood in the south. Get the crab cakes with the lobster cream sauce. For the complainers about slow service: this is the south. It’s normal here, get over it. Attentive waitress. Ambience is interesting and unique. Owner donates regularly to Honor flight with the dollar bills on the wall. Recognizes employees work with sales every night.
Wonderful experience close to the Hunting Island campground. Unlike other reviewers we had wonderful service. Can’t say enough good things about the crab cakes with lobster sauce. The broiled shrimp was cooked to perfection and fresh – you could tell it was caught locally!
Nothing Special, save your money!. My wife and I enjoy the small restaurant experience, unfortunately they seem to be struggling in this area. Average at best food, service, and atmosphere. The best part of the place was the cocktails. We’ve been coming here for years, it seems on the decline. Save your $!
Great fried oysters and shrimp. Not busy so very friendly Nd attentive wait staff. Food is still as good as 15 years ago but the inside looks like a dive bar.
Wild raccoon and cat on outside eating area approached our table several times hissing- ambivalence from staff and manager. When talking to the manager, he said that most people find the animals endearing and that next time we should ask to eat inside.not only do I not find wild animals endearing, especially while eating, I don’t appreciate being made to feel stupid for not wanting them as dining partners. They were even encouraging children to approach the animals! Disgusting and irresponsible!
This was a great lunch stop. Not very many places closeby and the food was great. Unlike some of these reviews we had excellent service (which doesn’t happen often these days) so maybe things have changed Would definitely go back!
Close to campground. Here was our experience. First of all, this restaurant is beautiful located on the edge of coastal wetlands just across the bridge from Hunting Island State Park. Too bad that location isn’t everything. Upon entering, the host seemed almost antagonistic. He did not smile or greet us in a friendly way. Given that this man seems to be the owner and/or manager, this behavior is completely inexplicable. We asked in a quiet, polite way if it was possible to be seated near a window, and he gave a grudging response. We did get a table with a view but were left with the feeling that we had done something wrong in asking for one. Our waitress was reasonably friendly, although certainly not enthusiastic about things, but the service was slow – slow in arriving, slow in bringing our drinks, slow in bringing our orders, slow in clearing the table, slow in taking our payment. However, the thing that was the most concerning about this establishment (and would probably keep us from returning) was how dirty it felt. Everything about it – from the fly-speckled windows to the sticky wooden tabletops and chairs, to the unfinished bathrooms – was a huge turn-off. There was an air of neglect about the entire restaurant, with all sorts of things left undone or done incorrectly. All the tacked-up dollar bills in the world cannot hide this lack of care and caring (actually, they add to it). Having said this, my husband said the shrimp may have been the best he’d ever had, and we were basically happy with the food.
