Unbelievable experience. Please eat here you wont be let down. Chef Josh Keelers romantic affair with farm to table is one to experienced. Even the hot sauce is homemade.
This is one of my go-to places in Charleston! Classy but casual inside space and unbeatable outdoor patio! We sit outside year round since they have plentiful heaters and large umbrellas with fans for hotter evenings. Service is always friendly, attentive and welcoming! They brought it for restaurant week! Starters:Beef tartare – toasted Koji mayo, French sorrel served with ricotta pancakes. Balanced tangy tartare with slightly salty pancakes! Perfection!Roasted Brussels – tomato and Parmesan. Simplistic with the tender, crispy and slightly bitter Brussels, acid balance of tomatoes with hints of salty Parmesan. Daves clams – a table favorite. Chowder, celery root and bacon lardons. Succulent tender clams floating in a creamy rich broth and salted with a crisp bacon lardon. I dont even care for clams, and I loved this dish!Mains:Smoked duck breast – Aji Dulce Chile, broccoli, mandarin and kosho. Perfect med/rare tender duck which a slight hint of smoke and mandarin citrus that lightened the dish. Sea scallops – sunchoke gratin, soubise and fennel pollen. Beautifully seared scallops floating on top of a silky bed of sunchoke gratin garnished with a delicate soubise. Garnished with fennel fronds. The kind of dish you curl up to and are reluctant to share! Coulotte – charred carrots, leeks, and black truffle. I lean towards are rare preparation for steak, but the flavor was excellent. Dessert:Chocolate Budino – pistachio, sea salt, and olive oil. Chocolate balanced with salt! Best combination ever!Meyer lemon cake – lemon curd, white chocolate buttercream. Moist, refreshing and not sickly sweet. Soft ripened goat cheese – tomatoe agrodolce, sourdough bread. I loved this European option for the non-sweet tooths at our table. Me? I went for cake! Sunday brunch – get the BURGER! We come here often, bring guests often, and enjoy it every single time! charlestonchews.com
Awesome in the light bite arena. We had the shrimp lettuce wraps, octopus, and tuna tartare. The wraps and the octopus were fantastic. Such great flavors that literally exploded in your mouth. As far a beers that we tried, we tried a sour beer from Frothy Beard brewery and a chocolate rye stout. Fantastic!! Note: We started at the courtyard, but wanted a more substantial menu for light bites and ended up at the bar as we got in at 10pm. There is a difference in the menus. The courtyard has only a few items for selection, the bar has a full menu.
Disappointing. Having anticipated the opening of 492 for several weeks, we were expecting good drinks and food but were disappointed to find neither. The nice patio and high end atmosphere simply could not overcome the discourteous staff, lackluster menu, and over priced, mediocre drinks.
Fabulous Meal!! Pasta, Clams, Duck and Qual Were to Die For. Fabulous meal from start to finish! Clams, pasta, duck and quail were to die for!!!
Delicious!. Excellent service. …wonderful ambiance. ….fabulous food…..love the small plates since they let our group try lots of different things…geechie boy grit loaf was sensational. …not cheap but the food was worth it ..oh almost forgot the house cocktail ….can’t remember the name but it was made of gin, asparsgus, honey and peas…one of the best cocktails ever..refreshing and perfect for a warm day!Congratulations to Nate Whiting and his staff for a great new edition to the Charleston food scene!
Disappointment. Wow! I was expecting better. Service was terrible and food was worst! I know it is a new restaurant but was let down incredibly.
