Had the special which was triggerfish. It was really good! Sat at the community table as we didn’t have a ressie. We got to know other diners, it was fun. My wife’s grouper was phenomenal and my daughter had the fried chicken which was great. Our waiter was very prompt and knowledgeable about the dishes, seafood sources, and the area. I would definitely come back!

Hank’s is a true diamond in the rough. The outside appearance is in the rough but the restaurant is a multi faceted diamond. The inside is spacious and has both booths and tables. There is a community table that can accommodate folks who probably forgot to make a reservation and don’t mind breaking bread with others. We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer together with a bailey’s and coffee and nice Fleur de Lis drink. For starters we ordered a nice cup of clam chowder. It was excellent. For the main courses salmon, tiger fish and for me seafood trio of scallops, grouper, and shrimp. The salmon, tiger fish and scallops were outstanding. The shrimp and grouper were slightly over cooked but were still very good. Our service was excellent from the time we entered the door till we left.Highly recommend Hank’s… rated the best seafood restaurant in Charleston for 16 straight years.

Absolutely amazing seafood place. The service is impeccable, you can tell they are professionals that take pride in their work. The food was also phenomenal. Very pleased with our visit.

Seems to be a trend with this restaurant’s inability to manage reservations. I too made a reservation a month out for my family of five’s one night out in Charleston. Restaurant even called to confirm. We arrived 55 minutes early and were told bluntly to come back later. Re-arrived ten minutes early. Waited nearly an hour after reservation time (with children BTW) and ended up departing without seating. Problem seemed to be a strategy of packing the restaurant rather than customer experience, combined with general mismanagement and clearing floor space for large parties, but I can only guess. Hostesses were rather rude and wanted to debate rather than empathize with the plethora of disappointed reservation customers. We will not return. This restaurant nearly ruined our culinary experience in Charleston. We were able to depart starving and have seafood elsewhere about two hours after dinner time. Your reservation means nothing here. Going here was like a stress-filled melee.

Elegant, amazing food, and delicious small plates from the raw bar. Hank’s has an amazing selection of seafood. While you can get seafood at most places in Charleston, their menu is very seafood focused. They are a bit in the pricy side, but not any higher than the other upscale establishments in the area. The portions are worth the price in my opinion. The dishes are not small. I ordered the Grouper and it was fantastic. Served over a bed of perfectly cooked mushroom risotto with blue cheese and a balsamic reduction. My date had the seared tuna which was also delicious. We started off with the ceviche…again, delicious. The ceviche was light and refreshing. The jalapeo provided the perfect amount of heat to cut through the acidity and the fried shoestring jicama added a delightful crunch. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful too. We enjoyed our meal, but I have to call out the service as well. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu items and was so friendly. I will definitely be back to Hank’s.

I really enjoyed eating at Hanks. We went during Restaurant Week and ordered off of that menu. The waitstaff was super nice, but the table we were at was so close to our neighbors we could easily hear each other (and the lady diagonal from me kept giving me really strange looks). We both had the she crab soup, which was very delicious. I had the Curried Shrimp, which was so well flavored! I loved it! The dessert selections for the night were ok–chocolate peanut butter pie (which I couldn’t eat), and key lime pie–I had the key lime, and while it’s not my favorite dessert, it was extremely tasty and well presented! I know the curried shrimp is on their regular menu, too, and I’ll definitely be going back for it…

So not order shrimp and grits unless you like tomato (a lot of tomato) and want tasteless shrimp on a grit cake. Not traditional shrimp and grits at all. Port braised rib was very tender and tasted good. Collard greens were very good. Overall mediocre restaurant.
