This place has all the rights to call itself the best seafood restaurant in town. That the crabcake was delicious would be an understatement. Also built my own platter of Tilapia, shrimp, hush puppies and red rice.If you are in the South, dont miss this place
The fried green tomatoes were good as were the boiled peanuts. For dinner I had their take on shrimp and grits. Creamy sauce, the shrimp were nicely cooked and the grits were packed in little fried squares. Overall it was a rich and pleasant meal.
Heard good things about this place. I must say I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping for one of the best seafood experiences ever. Sadly, it fell short. The food was good, but just above average. The service was really slow too. The hush puppies were some of the best I ever tasted. Got scallops and steak and they were both overcooked. Tons of potential here, so I’d be willing to give it another try when we visit again. Today I left a little underwhelmed.
My husband and I just visited Charleston, and we are so glad that our visit included Hyman’s! The staff was both friendly and informative. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The food was excellent. I ordered the crab cakes which I enjoyed because they had quite a bit of crab in them (compared to other crab cakes I have had). My husband ordered the Carolina Delight which he was quite impressed with. He thought so highly of it that he was afraid that everything else we ate on our trip would be a disappointment!
Every Time I go I just have a great experience! The service is always great, from all members of the staff and the food is SO GOOD. I’ve always heard it was overrated but I really don’t think it is!
There was a lot of hype about Hyman’s so we thought we would try it out. We called ahead so that our wait would be minimal and were in seats within ten minutes. Not bad. There were so many options to choose from; almost too many. I chose the seafood platter, fried. This was a choice I was reluctant to make. However, the portion size was just right, the breading was light, and there was very little grease left saturating the food from frying. The food was acceptable but didn’t live up to the expectations provided by our friends. Fleet Landing was better!
She crab soup was too starchy and salty. Not good. The fried flounder was dry and frozen. Shrimp were small. Real small. Scallops were good though. Overpriced tourist trap. I think we’ll take a pass next time. Service was okay.
