Beware!. Our group of friends recently scheduled a bridal brunch on the morning of the wedding at Grover’s. We confirmed with the manager midweek before Saturday’s event. When we arrived to put out our flowers a little over an hour before the scheduled time for the brunch to begin, we were met by one of the two cooks. She knew there was a scheduled event but had no idea of the menu; thankfully, we had our copy. When no other personel showed up and no manager could be reached by phone, we told the cooks to begin cooking, and we went to work. It was a good thing that we were a group of teachers used to working for we put out the linens, set the tables (which were not arranged as we had asked), made the coffee and tea, set up the all the drinks (even washing glasses for mimosa’s), etc. An assistant manager arrived about 25 mins. before our party and only had time to frantically set up the buffet table. The one positive we have to say is that the food was good. After the event when the manager had arrived, we asked to speak with him. He kept us waiting 45 minutes. When he finally came to speak with us, I am not sure he could have been ruder; he was completely unapologetic for being totally unprepared for our event. He did not care at all that had we not arrived early enough to set up for our luncheon, this bridal event would have been dreadful. It goes without saying that we would urge anyone considering this restaurant to be forewarned while this manager is employed!!
Good Food / Reasonable Service. We were staying at the Wyndham Resort, for a week at the end of July, and came here three times. Just the two of us and we ordered a variety of items. Food was very good and there was enough to take half home. Service was a little more iffy. If you got there when there was not a crowd, service was okay. But it appeared to fill up quickly and then there would be a slow down. One day the kitchen lost our order, so we had to wait an extra half hour. Exactly how many wait people there were, was debatable…seemed to vary day to day. Their Philly Steak sandwich was very good.
I don’t know where to start. All I know is you better hope your service and food is perfect because the management, wait staff, and manager will not be empathetic otherwise. Every level of management offered excuses on why this is the worst restuarant in town. Two hours to get our food, never brought bread, got salad with my entree after they failed to ring it up, never brought waters to the table, steak was the worst quality ive ever eaten. I complained to each level of management looking for an apology….never got an I’m sorry let me take care of this for you. The steaks aren’t consistent was the managers answer for my poor quality $30 steak. Finally I demanded that we be compensated, he took 20% off, slapped the bill in my hand and walked off. The manager was an absolute jerk. This place is only open because there is no where else to eat on the island. Stay at home and cook.
Wow, we just took 3 hours to eat at Grover’s I wish I could say it was worth the wait, but not a chance. We waited an hour to be seated, and one of the local’s was so rude to my family that I said something. One of those ‘holy’er than thow – we don’t drink types’. Real small man’s complex I guess? Evidently, he knew the manager, because they delayed our seating for an hour, and then we were another hour getting our food. The portions were obviously cut in half as some type of ‘protect the locals’ vendetta. We had been there 2 nights earlier and ordered the same dishes. When we showed the waitress she was completely apologetic, and wondered out loud what was going on in the kitchen. We asked to speak to the manager, and he put us off for 45 minutes until we had paid, and asked again. Funny, but when we told him that we had waited over an hour for our food he said ‘ some have waited almost an hour and a half. And when we questioned him for not stopping by for 45 minutes, he said he’d been busy. Really? Well, keep this up and y’all won’t be for long. hope the locals can keep you in business, because as a yearly visitor, we will not be back. I dropped $300.00 there but it’s the last. Rather go to a Chili’s or even a Popeye’s or eat at home. Place reminded me of Bushwood in Caddyshack. You’ll never be a member at Bushwood! – Whatever
What a great place to have lunch after a round of golf. Pulled pork snadwich was good.
We just spent 4 days at this resort. My family had dinner here one night. It was fabulous! French onion soup was delicious and my crab legs were fantastic and reasonably priced! Lived the atmosphere with comfy chairs!
A modern look in Edisto. We stopped in to Grovers for a glass of wine and some appetizers while on a long weekend at the island. Both Grovers and the Plantation Grill have a different feel than most of the other restaurants on the island. Edisto is mostly old and very non-commercial – we love that – the Plantation Grill and Grovers are quite different. They have been remodeled and have a very modern decor and interior achetecture – more like you would expect in Atlanta. You will like the feel, though – it is very comfortable. Our boiled shrimp and wings appetizers were very good and the happy hour prices on the house wines were excellent. The hostess and waiter were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We’ll go back and try some items from the regular menu.
