Ok it was Labor Day. At a price tags of $245 for 4 people should have been great, was not. Loud and noisy, waiter overwhelmed, and food just good, nothing special. Grits for all sides, hmm whompayntop dollar for grits?

Terrible Experience. Below is the email I sent Franks and received no response to. It details our experience:I wanted to follow up on my recent experience at Franks Outback. We were vacationing from Charleston in the Pawleys area two weeks ago. My wife and I were able to leave our children with family for a bit Saturday, August 9th and sneak away for a rare, but much needed date. We had eaten at Franks a few years ago and had a delicious meal and were so eager to return. Unfortunately we were disappointed entirely. We took a 6:00pm reservation and were promptly seated. We received our drinks and the specials from our server. This evening we settled on an app of the fried oysters, my wife a wedge salad, myself a ceasar, and for entrees she chose the four oz tenderloin and I selected the short ribs. The oysters arrived promptly but were a solid two minutes overcooked. They tasted like fried food from a ballpark. Our salads came next and honestly were probably the best part of our meal, not because the salads were spectacular but they had no issues like our app and entrees. Our entrees arrived just before we finished our salads but wasn’t a huge inconvenience. To begin, my wife had ordered her beef med. rare. The cut was nowhere close. It was unevenly cooked, with some areas gray, and others gray with a faint pink center. We noted it to our server, but at this point refused her offer of another. My short ribs were bland and nowhere near fork tender. I would expect short ribs to fall apart at the sight of a fork, not require a forceful press and tear motion into the bottom of the bowl. The mashed potatoes that came with the short ribs had the taste and texture of a pack of .99 cent instant potatoes. Including drinks and tip, this was by far the worst $99 meal I have ever had. I left a note on the receipt with the check and mentioned my displeasure to the hostess when we left. I left my email address on the note and told the hostess. I fully expected to hear from you by now concerning this meal. At this point, we will not return to Franks nor will suggest this restaurant to friends or family.

We went to the Outback side tonight and it was just okay for me. I had the grouper and it was cold when I got it. It was also over cooked and under seasoned. Three of our party ordered pizzas and the two children loved them, but one adult said his was only okay – the lamb was ground, not in slices or chunks. One person got she crab soup and she loved it. Anothe in our party loved the spinach and goat cheese salad. The service was excellent, but the waitress seemed like she was spread too thin. Overall it was just okay, and at $30 a plate, it needs to do a lot better than that.

Best for year-round outdoor seating and quality food. We have been eating at Frank’s Outback for over 15 years. It is certainly a family favorite. The atmosphere is wonderful, always a fire in the fireplace, live music, and great food. Favorites include Calmari, Lamb, and the Filet. Oh yeah, don’t forget the wood fired pizza.

Disappointed with an old favorite. Unfortunately, not good. A favorite of ours for years but the last two years have been disappointing. Tonight…music too loud, steak not cooked as ordered, oysters too breaded, all dishes seemed pretty watered down. Last year we said we wouldn’t come back but we did. This year we mean it.

So.so. She crab soup was fair, sertainly nothing to rave over. Had what was billed to be seared mahi with mushroom risotto. The risotto was okay, mahi looked like it had been poached, not seared at all and on the dry and tasteless side. Not worth the price.

I recently enjoyed a great dinner at Frank’s; I selected their grouper over grits along with a light cream sauce. It was outstanding and the service was excellent ! I would make an effort to eat there any time I’m in Pawleys Island or anywhere close!
