Absent Service. Oysters are great and the Crab Cakes are the best in Greenville. However, If your not a regular you get treated like an foreigner. Our waitress took our order, brought our drinks and food. 30 minutes later she came with the check. Period. No offer for another beer or desert.
Enjoyed it. However, I really think it is overpriced. For the same amount I could go down the street to downtown and eat. The service was ok. I seemed to not exactly know who my primary server was. I was really looking forward to a good piece of prime rib, for the price, I was not thrilled. My dog did however enjoy the leftovers. I will go back, but I will watch my spending so I feel like I am getting my moneys worth.
Ok first of all do NOT get the quiche of the day!!! It was 80% cheese and was cooked probably a week ago. My girlfriend got the prime rib which for 23$ was worse than the prime rib you get at Ryan’s Buffett. Total came to be about 70$ and at that price I could think of about 15 better restaurants.
Since Greenville outlawed smoking in restaraunts this place is great. Love the prime rib quessadilla and decent price point
Where do I start? The food is good, don’t get me wrong. I love oysters and Blockhouse’s oysters are among the best but it’s a little hard to enjoy oysters that you can’t order. Waitresses seem to only tend to the regulars and seem to have a chip on their shoulder about something. I’m a waitress and I understand a few bad days here or there or that one girl who is always rude but all of them? And it’s a little difficult to tip here because when you can hunt them down they take your order without a smile and then proceed to dump your food at your table. So overall: Good food, Service needs MUCH improvement.
How can it be that I am the first to write a review for this decades-old Augusta Street tradition? Irregular floors, a constantly-changing waitstaff of girls-in-transition, an unpredictable kitchen and (perhaps for all these very British-pub-like reasons) overall a wonderful place to drink and eat (in that order). The prime rib sandwich usually is wonderful; the salmon salad is good (but great in season) and the oysters are much loved by those who love oysters. Dine here; the odds are 80-20 in your favor (place your bets, ladies and gentlemen) that you’ll be glad you did. And they’re off!
