This week I ate at Acropolis Restaurant. I had the Zorba Combination Platter, choosing a Greek dish from the menu which seemed to cover Greece, Italy and some of the MidEast, like falafel. It was a combination of meats served on a bed of rice pilaf combined with onions and mushrooms and came with a salad and pita. Extremely tasty and tasted very fresh. The portion was very generous and the price was extremely reasonable. I chose a Greek red wine from the house list, which worked very well. I was surprised how little Acropolis charges for a decent house wine. Most places charge more even during Happy Hour. And the bartender didnt skimp on the pour. The restaurant is very homey. It has Greek murals, a beautiful Tiffany type ceiling and the adjoining bar has been remodeled to be snazzy while still keeping the family owned feeling. I noticed the owner knew many of his customers by first name and they seemed to be regulars. I could see into the kitchen and it was immaculate. I was also very impressed by the service. Even though the restaurant was almost full, the servers2 women and a mandid a very good job of covering all the tables. They helped each other constantly regardless of whose table it was. They were knowledgeable, friendly and prompt without giving you the rushed feeling so many chain restaurants leave you with. I did see that some of the baked items took time to arrive, but that showed me they were actually home made and not just being heated up in a microwave. I heard the waiter warning a customer about how hot the plate was. Although they dont serve any draft beers I did see an extensive array of bottled beers both domestic and foreign. I will definitely return.
Always delicious
