Good BBQ. Don’t let the Negative review by the guy named Winston sway you! It appears that he might be in cahoots with the owner of Big Al’s. I will not eat at Big Al’s becasue it is way too expensive for what you get! I will maybe one day try them but probably not!I am a Competition BBQ Cook on the KCBS Circuit and have won numerous awards while competeing on the ICBA Circuit in Texas and Charlie’s does a good job for a fast food BBQ Restaurant. They have been cooking BBQ here for close to 20 years and even though they no longer cook the BBQ in the giant Brick Pit the BBQ still has a good flavor! There are only a very few traditional pit BBQ Restaurants left. They have all switched to the Industrial Ovens that use wood only to add smoke and some heat. They are computer controlled set it and forget it. The old pitmaster staying up all night to monitor the fire is gone because of the lack of pitmasters and the expense of labor! You will still enjoy the food and the service. Charlie the original owner has since sold the store to one of his original managers and and this new owner is keen on customer service and quality. If you go in for lunch or dinner he always has a full staff in the kitchen and on the counter so your food comes out fast and fresh! None of the BBQ is chopped until you order, never ahead of time! The servings are very generous and make Henry’s BBQ portions appear skimpy (they are anyway because they barely fill the large portion of the plate). At Charlie’s the BBQ fills the plate and is piled high and yes, the sweet tea is to die for! I swear I drink a gallon every time I go!!There is only one thing I wish that they would add to their menu and that is Beef Brisket! I have not been able to find a single restaurant in South or North Carolina that can cook a decent BBQ Brisket! Many try and claim that it is the best, however; it is all crap and not worthy feeding my dog! I would be glad to assist them in cooking brisket if they ever were interested but alas, South Carolina is not a fan of Brisket!

Charlie’s BBQ. In a state, where BBQ is notable primarily in how disgusting it is, Charle’s excels. Could you possibly make a worse BBQ sauce if you sat down and tried? The chicken plate was pathetic. No smoke whatsover, and coated in the sad, thin, vinegary sauce. Don’t bother with this place. Anyone who thinks this is BBQ, much less GOOD BBQ, needs to get out more often. They don’t even serve ribs. Try Big Al’s on Woodruff instead.

Best Sauce. The hot sauce is the best, but not really that hot… best sweet tea anywhere… the bbq is okay, a little dryer than bucky’s and henry’s, but still frequent because of the sauce, tea, and portions.

How BBQ should be. I have been eating here for the last 10 years. Their BBQ is top notch, their sauce is ketchup based (my preference), their hot sauce is to die for, and their french fries are as hot and crispy as you could dream of. Their staff is friendly and personable, the restaurant is really clean, and the line moves quickly!

Great barbecue. We love this bbq! It has a great flavor, portions are large, and sauce is good (go for the hot sauce, it is not really too hot, just right). We discovered this restaurant shortly after moving to the area about 5 years ago and have become regulars. Everything is good, pork, chicken, sweet tea, and the hamburgers. Can’t wait for the next visit. Friendly atmosphere.

Best? I have to disagree. I sure like more smoke flavor. The price is right though and the cole slaw was nice
