    I normally love Denny’s, the food tends to be pretty consistent and the service has never been anything less than great. Up until last night anyway. My boyfriend and I went to the opening races at the Greenville Pickens speedway with a friend and were starving when we left. Our friend mentioned Denny’s and we drove 20 minutes out of our way to get to one from the racetrack. We walked in and could tell it was hectic. It was 10 pm and they were slammed, but we didn’t mind waiting. We waited for someone to take our name for about 5 minutes and the manager finally came up and wrote our name down on the back of a piece of receipt paper and walked off. The others patrons looked miserable and I over heard a group near us say that they were going to leave if someone didn’t come to get their drink order soon. About 15 minutes later someone other than the manager asked how many were in our party and walked us to a booth, as if she had no idea that we had been waiting for 20 minutes. She took our drink order and then disappeared. About 15 minutes later we got our drinks and she said someone would be with us soon to take our order. I only saw 3 servers for the whole restaurant so it was obvious that they were understaffed. However, no one ever told us that. I don’t mind waiting, even at Denny’s, but at least tell us that you’re understaffed so we know why it’s taking so long for everything. Finally someone came to take our order. We got a half order of zesty nachos, the super bird with sweet potato fries, a grand slam, and a chicken chorizo skillet with a side of toast. The nachos came fairly quickly but looked disgusting! It was a bowl half full of tortilla chips with cheese and some kind of chili that looked like it came from a can with a side of sour cream and pico de gallo that was all onions and cilantro. The nachos looked NOTHING like the picture in the menu and tasted horrible. I might have complained except we didn’t see a server for another 30 minutes. A man that I hadn’t seen yet brought out our food and brought me the wrong sandwich. (A blt with sweet potato fries). When the man came back to bring the grand slam he recognized that he gave me the wrong sandwich and brought the correct one but it had regular fries. I mentioned it and be brought a bowl of the correct fries. Our friend never got his toast although we asked for it. About 5 minutes after we got our food someone completely different from our server brought the bill and set it on the table. We waited for about 20 more minutes for someone to walk by so we could ask for to go boxes. And another 15 minutes after that (even after asking the manager for one), my boyfriend got up and got one himself. The food was okay, I enjoyed my sandwich and fries and our friend enjoyed his skillet. My boyfriend’s pancakes were over cooked and almost impossible to cut through but other than that, and the nachos, the food was good. However, the service was absolutely awful. I used to serve so I understand how stressful it can be when you’re understaffed and busy, but at least tell your customers what’s going on and you might not have to rush around so much. We saw two tables get up and leave because no one ever helped them after they were sat. I’m also pretty sure a table didn’t pay because they stood at the register for so long and people just kept walking past them. This will not keep me from going back to Denny’s, but I will never visit the one of Wade Hampton Boulevard again.I took a picture of the nachos to show how gross they looked but can’t upload it.
