Terrible Service. What has happened to Fatz in Greenwood? My wife and I went to Fatz on November 13, 2011. It was probably one of the worst experiences of my life. It was a beautiful fall day, so when we walked in and noticed that there was a wait, we asked if we could go out on the porch and sit and wait. We were told no because no one knew who had the key to the door. As we waited, we both noticed that there seemed to be an odd smell in the air. We were not sure if this was due to the food or the fact that they were extremely busy. Also, as we waited, we both took notice as to how run down the dining room appeared. They have a dresser bureau, where I guess they keep silverware or menus. This piece of furniture appeared to be falling apart. I remembered thinking that if the employees didn’t care to take care of the furniture in this place, how can I expect them to care about my food or dining experience… unfortunately, I was right. We were seated about 15 minutes later (not a bad wait time considering the number of people that were there, the place was packed). Our waitress came out and took our drink orders. My wife ordered water with lemon and I ordered diet soda. We also ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. I noticed that she didn’t write anything down but that’s a thing some restaurants do, so I didn’t think too much about it. A few minutes later, she came back with two waters and a slightly confused look on her face. I let her know that I had ordered diet soda (diet coke) and my wife asked again for lemons for her water. The waitress went back and got my diet soda and asked if we were ready to order our food. My wife ordered the Calabash Chicken with a baked potato and added a side salad. She again asked for lemons for her water. I ordered Calabash Fish and Shrimp with broccoli and asked for a side salad instead of coleslaw. Again, she wrote nothing down. She then proceeded to come back twice to verify what I had ordered. Each time my wife continued to ask for lemons. While waiting for our appetizer, we needed drink refills. The waitress walked by several times but we eventually had to ask her to refill our drinks. My wife again asked for lemons, by this time she was getting perturbed. We both wondered what was taking the appetizer so long.Just when we were going to ask her to check on the appetizer (about 20 min later), our entrees were brought out to the table. The server that brought them asked us if there was anything else we needed. We informed him that we had both ordered salads which we did not have and we had ordered an appetizer that still had not come out. Also, my wife’s plate had fries instead of the potato she had ordered. He immediately brought back the salads and a baked potato. Then our waitress showed back up with our appetizer and lemons. She said that the kitchen had sent our appetizer to the wrong table and she had to get them to remake it. So now we have all this food on the table. We told her that we were not used to going to a restaurant and having all the food brought out at once. We mentioned that our entrees would probably be cold by the time we finished the appetizer and salads. She asked us what we expected her to do about it. She again stated that it was the kitchens fault and not hers. She stated that she had done her job. I told her that I was *glad* it wasn’t her fault and then my wife asked her not to come back to our table again. In the mean time while all this was going, there were two elderly couples sitting in the booth beside ours. They had been seated just after us and had ordered as soon as they sat down (so they ordered before we did). They had their drinks but still didn’t have any food, not even bread. They did have a different waitress though. So the poor manager comes over to us. We gave her an earful about the terrible service (we both wondered out loud if this was the waitress’s first day…we were told it was not). The manager was appalled that the waitress had blamed the kitchen and offered neither a solution or a mere apology. She offered us a free dessert which we declined. We just wanted to finish our food and leave. The manager, I guess, realized that a free dessert was not going to appease us, so she told us that our meal was on the house. She apologized several times (and we could tell that she actually meant it). When we left, the elderly couples still had not gotten even bread. If we hadn’t been so mad, we would have made sure that someone knew. But we were ready to get out of there. I also used Twitter to tweet about my experience at Fatz. I was contacted by their corporate office to get more information about the service. However when I responded back to them with my phone number, they never called or responded. I followed up again with them after a couple of weeks and they directed me to their corporate website to fill out a survey form. I let them know back that they really didn’t care about my experience otherwise they would have called me like I asked them to do.Had we not been so mad about the way that we were treated by this waitress who just didn’t seem to care, we might have enjoyed the food which was actually good.
