My family and I were hanging out in our condo one evening on vacation, wondering what to do for dinner. Not feeling like going out, we decided on carryout food instead. And a nearby place that caught our attention and was a little less costly than others was Dough Boys, a restaurant specializing in pizza, subs, calzones, wings, and salads.Dough Boys is situated in a small strip mall and its the type of place you are likely to overlook. We only discovered it by searching online for a place to eat. The ratings for Dough Boys looked good, so we decided this would be our choice for dinner. I drove to Dough Boys to pick up our food. They were extremely busy and our order wasnt ready. But they more than made it up to us by adjusting the bill. I was more than willing to forgive anyway because I could see the tremendous effort on the part of the employees. They were working like mad, trying to get all of the food prepared properly and served as quickly as possible.For our meal we decided to order a pizza and a pair of subs. You can build your own pizza or select among about 18 pre- made options. With the subs, there are about 14 choices. My kids wanted their usual pepperoni pizza and along with that, we selected the cheesesteak and chicken parm subs. The pizza is made with a hand tossed crust with a somewhat salty sauce and mozzarella cheese. We found it very good overall, but what really impressed me most was the subs! Served on an amoroso roll, the subs were out of this world and as I munched on my cheesesteak, I wondered aloud how they could possibly make a cheesesteak this good. The shaved beef, sauteed onions, house made cheese sauce, etc added up to a piece of heaven on a roll. Dough Boys may not receive the attention that other Hilton Head eateries receive and its not the type of restaurant that makes its presence known. But this little restaurant is one amazing place for pizza and subs and I am thankful that my wife discovered it online. I am not sure I can give that accurate of a review because we ordered a pepperoni pizza, which is a shame given their other delicious sounding options. The dough was pretty good and probably made in house, however I don’t think I can say the same about their cheese. Cheese was overly salty (even accounting for the pepperoni and parmesan) and seemed like prepackaged shredded mozzarella. Unfortunately they don’t have fresh mozzarella available, which makes me think they don’t make their own cheese. Apart from that the tomato sauce seemed fine, good pizza overall. We also had a salad with Greek dressing. Nothing special about it. Would go back after trying other pizza places in the area.
Very very good pizza. Have tried several other places that we liked but went out on a limb to try something new and were not disappointed. Staff was very friendly too and our carry out order took only 15 minutes. Great new addition to HHI!
Good not great pizza. The large pizza is a nice size. The salad comes with four free toppings- we liked choosing our own toppings. Wish Dough Boys had a little more of those toppings included. The Greek dressing appears homemade, would have loved to have a second cup of the dressing to dip my crust in!Easy, no stress option after a long day at the beach.
Not Great Pizza. Must have changed from several years ago. Same location different pizza and cheese bread which were a little bland. Have not fond a great pizza on the island.
Best Pizza On The Island. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I chatted with one of the workers and they said this place opened in January. I am from Pittsburgh and we have really good pizza up here and this place is up there as one of the best pizzas I have ever had! They have very good consistency with the cheese and sauce. They definitely use fresh ingredients. This is a very good New York style pizza for about half the cost of the other guys on the island like the NY place close to Coligny. Definitely go here if you want a good pizza pie.
