One of the few places that we will visit a few times while on the island. Breakfasts are great and when you have those days that you wake up early and everyone in the house is still asleep, go here. The burgers are exactly what you need after golfing to soak up the beers before you get home. The guys there are half the entertainment. There is dry little tolerance for knuckleheads or complaining and they always call it like they see it. And if you walk in and see someone getting a verbal beat down they always deserved it, don’t take pity on them because that means you will be able to get a seat sooner.

Ok and very kitschy place to go. Definitely not a place to go with a large crowd or young kids or old people as there is only one long counter and a few two-seater tables. It’s confusing to place an order as the staff ignores you (on purpose) and you have to get their attention to get them your order and ask for water, coffee, juice. It’s like the bacon and eggs equivalent of a nightclub. I go because my husband likes it, but I think this may have been my last trip there.

Read the reviews. They are correct. Great food and huge portions for the price….but not a place for kids. It’s all the bad you would expect from redsox and patriots ran establishment. Lots of attitude that I am sure construction workers and new Englanders alike would appreciate. Don’t let your kids read anything on the wall. If you are looking for an up north experience while visiting the south this is your spot! Families beware. Ruben was great. Chicken sandwich not so much. Burgers looked amazing. Probably best to get it to go. Harold probably prefers it!

‘The best little diner in America’. Isn’t that a better way to start off than writing ‘The best little whorehouse in America’? My friends in Hilton Head, SC convinced me we should visit a legendary 12 seat diner while I was in their community. They’d never been to the eatery, either, but had heard rave reviews so we gave it a shot. The place is called Harold’s. As you enter the establishment you immediately see a sign: We root for two baseball teams; the Boston Red Sox and anyone playing the Yankees. That’s good to know because with interleague play I could now talk about the Chicago Cubs without fear of reprisal. The place is a two man team, Harold and another guy. They don’t mess around when it comes to getting your order to your plate. My request was a turkey Rueben. It took five minutes to receive this mountain of meat, sauerkraut, bread and other stuff I didn’t dare ask about. It was scrumptious. On the wall were rules that needed to be strictly adhered to: 1) Seat yourself wherever possible 2) Order–fill out your own menu 3) Always be listening. Your order may be ready 4) If something goes wrong it’s you own damn fault….Here the customer is never right 5) Eat: Hunker down…no sissies allowed 6) Exit- You’re done, leave. This ain’t Starbucks 7) Pay when your bill is ready…no credit cards, no checks, only cash. Leave This is my kind of place for a couple of reasons. I asked the owner his address. He told me he only passes out this kind of information on a need to know basis. By the way, it’s 641 Wm. Hilton Parkway. I appreciate folks who are up front and operate a no frills operation. Secondly, he had two bumper stickers among many that caught my eye. One read, ‘Obama sucks’. The other? I can’t place it in this blog. It also dealt with Obama but I’ve heard children sometimes read MJH and I don’t want to receive hate mail. If you ever in Hilton Head visit Harold’s. It’s a gem of a place but don’t tell the owner I said so. He might take offense at my compliment.

Great place!. Great little place! VERY small, but its part of the charm. Classic little diner, friendly service, good food, well priced. If you’re looking for a quick and quaint place to eat, Harold’s Diner is probably the place!

AWSOME!! Ok to those who say that the staff is rude etc, they obviously dont have a sense of humor.. Its all in fun. Its a diner for christ sake.Ok to the food.. You order from a menu that you check off what you want. Its that easy. Out comes one of the most delicious burgers ive had in a very long time. Its was a juicy all beef 1/2 lb patty on an awsome bun. The Big Mac i had the previous day tasted like garbage compaired to this. The vanilla shake was equally delicious!Yes this place has some rated R stickers on the walls etc.. But who cares. I brought my 4 and 9 mo old here for a quick lunch and the owner was more than accommodating..So have some fun, and an A++ burger here and you’ll be pleased.

Very rude and impersonal. We were not greeted. When we were finally acknowledged and got our drinks, my 5 year old was brought a full size cup. We asked for a to go cup for her and the lady pointed to the door for us to get it ourselves. There was no lid in sight, so we just got up and left.
