Tasteless Pizza. I was visiting Hilton Head Island from North Carolina and couldn’t decide what to eat. We settled on pizza. New York City Pizza was the closest to our hotel. I was a little worried about eating there based on some of the reviews I read but decided to try it. After all how bad could pizza be? I ordered 2 slices of sausage pizza. The service was okay. Not overly friendly but not rude. I can respect that. On the drive back to the hotel I knew it was a mistake based on the smell. Pizza usually has nice aroma that makes you want to eat it on the way home. This one smelled like nothing. Well it smelled like pizza crust…burned pizza crust. When I finally tasted the pizza I was so glad I didn’t order a whole one. The rectangular school pizzas from the 80’s tasted 5 times better than this New York style pizza. It had no taste and no seasonings. The pizza sauce tasted like plain tomato paste. No garlic, no basil, no oregano, no nothing! You would be better off going to the grocery store and buying a Digiorno pizza. I didn’t taste any of the other food there but hopefully it is better than the pizza.
Im a fan!. I like the pizza (the sauce is a little different than Im used to, but I like it) and the sandwiches. The wedding soup is awesome! Service is always good and the place is clean!
Disappointed. Pizza is ok but entrees were awful…a few bites then tossed them out.
Way Overpriced and Average. We ordered three different pizzas and it was too much money for the quality. It is pretty rare that I don’t like pizza. If it were $10, I would still think it wasn’t good enough. Our whole family got this for the first night we came in and the place was packed and got decent reviews, but I that it was just average. I loved Dough Boys down the street much much better. Go there and avoid this place if you plan getting a good pie for way less.
Overpriced and poorly made. We ordered two large two-topping pizzas, and not only did they come to $45, they were bland with a crust that did a passable imitation of cardboard. We will definitely not be buying from here again.
Nothing Special. We ordered one supreme hand tossed and one pepperoni hand tossed. It was delivered within 45 minutes on Independence Day, not bad for a holiday. The toppings were good quality and cooked perfectly. However, there was little sauce and the crust was like cardboard, making for a very bland pizza experience.
First Time Disappointed…. I’ve been going to HH for the last 10 years and can’t leave the Island without having NY City Pizza! It’s one of the things I looked forward to when I visit. This year I went with my family and had a disappointing experience. We ordered for our table and it took longer than normal for the food to arrive. When we asked our waitress, something had apparently gone awry with our order. OK NO PROBLEM – these things happen. As we waited for our pizza, we saw the cook take an already prepared pizza from a box (not sure if it was sitting 1 minute or 15), put pepperoni on it, and stick it in the oven. We made the waitress aware and a fresh pie was made. They also gave us a discount on our meal. So they did do the right thing by us which was much appreciated. The pizza is excellent and I will go back again in time – just not sure if it will be ‘must have’ item.
