• Great Beer Now!

  I write a nationally- known beer blog, Great Beer Now, and because of my interest in malt beverages, I am always on the lookout for new beer. On a family outing to Hilton Head Island, beer was on my mind, as always, and my quest for malty libations led me to The Lodge Beer and Growler Bar.The Lodge is so- named because the interior takes on the look of a vacation mountain lodge. The interior features wood, stuffed animals, and deer antler light fixtures and its a little on the dark side. There is also a sports emphasis, with televisions tuned to sports entertainment and a pair of pool tables for those who would rather play than watch. Beer is the main reason to visit The Lodge and, as any guest will attest, this is really a beer bar more than anything. The choices are many, with a couple dozen taps flowing freely and a large variety of styles. I had no problem finding new beer to try, and as a beer writer, this is important to me. The Lodge scores highly in this area and if beer is your thing, its worthy of a visit for that reason alone.With food, The Lodge sticks with dining options typical of bar food, which means The Lodge features American style pub food that matches well with the brew. I love a good burger with my beer and so I ordered one of them, which comes with a side of homemade chips. Other family members got things like grilled cheese, chicken wings, and other items. I found my burger okay, but I admit it was made better with the accompanying beer. The grilled cheese one of my kids ordered was mediocre, but still good enough for a kid. However, the chicken wings and side items were nice and we did leave feeling full and reasonably satisfied.Hilton Head Island has a good number of dining options and most of them are casual in nature. The Lodge Beer and Growler Bar is a good choice for a casual meal and I definitely recommend it to those who love craft beer. The happy hour deals on both food and drink are excellent and while the food isnt necessarily outstanding, the happy hour deals and large beer selection make a visit worthwhile. greatbeernow.com

  Not sure how the food is, we’ve been waiting on a server for ten minutes now. If we order I’ll update this review. If you have a growler, bring it on down. They have several beers on tap and encourage growlers.

  I meant to take a photo of my meal but it looked so amazing I had it half eaten before I thought about it, lol. So I guess just take my word on it the service and food were all amazing!
