We ordered a fried seafood combo and a grilled seafood combo, both came with shrimp and flounder. On the grilled plate we got 8 small shrimp, and a piece of flounder the size of the palm of my hand less than an 1/8 inch thick. The fried plate had 8 small to med shrimp, and the flounder was slightly larger. Both came with cob corn that was cold, the wait staff took the corn back to the kitchen, and returned with corn that was slightly warmer. The fried plate had fries, we asked for ketchup and they brought us cocktail sauce in a small cup. We have tried two of the other Gilligans( Ladson and Goose Creek) and we received the same quality (small portions, overcooked shrimp, cold sides). For the two plates with drinks we paid 55.00$. Overall the the prices are high for the portions received, and the food quality is lacking. It is fresh local seafood but, the preparation takes away from that. This is a shame, Gilligans used to be the seafood place to go to, we won’t go back.
Gilligan’s Steamer and Raw Bar, Charleston SCVisited Gilligan’s per Hawthorne front desk staff recommendation on our first night (Friday, November 28, 2014). The place is sort of hard to find and its located off the main road in a not well lit location in a shopping strip. The place was packed; however, we didn’t wait long for our table. We were greeted by our waitress, who never gave us her name, and sat in a booth next to the most beautiful water tanks ever!!! We ordered, crab cakes and Hawaiian fish tacos and had a slice of key lime pie. The food was ok, taste wasn’t all there. It was like eating at Red Lobster. Nothing fancy and nothing local. We ended up paying around $46 for the two of us.Overall experience: had we turned right in the main road, we would have found better places to eat.Would we go again?? No, not worth it.
Beatiful location, Inconsistent and overpriced. This restaurant is right on the river, if you don’t have a boat and you want to be on the water and have a couple drinks, this is as close as your gonna get in Moncks Corner. The food isn’t fresh by any means, and quite expensive for what it is, 20$ bucks for frozen fried shrimp and french fries is steep. The salads are decent, and the hush puppies are very good. But you don’t go to a seafood restaurant for salad and hush puppies now do you…. The wait staff is really hit and miss. If you want to look at the river and have a drink, you’ll be ok. If you want seafood for dinner, your much better off at Captain D’s (seriously)
