Worth the wait. What kind of wonderful cafe serves free coffee for those waiting to get in? The food was very good, service the same, and definitely a new breakfast spot when I am in Charleston.
Gross! Some items had no flavor, others were too rich. Nothing was consistant. Location is dark and dingy. I would not suggest this place to anyone.
The service – not amazing. The owner – a bit full of herself. But, the food – exquisite. I found one of the best Eggs Benedict’s ever in this quaint cafe. And, the Island Jerk sandwich is fabulous.
If you’re a Yuppie you’ll love this place, but if you’re Looking for a solid traditional breakfast steer clear. Can’t even get just eggs, grits, and bacon. All the menu items are frilly. Even the iced tea only comes flavored. This is the south sweet tea is a must have staple. Thumbs down. Wish we had gone to IHOP or Cracker Barrel.
Breakfast!. We found that Charleston Cafe was a great experience for Breakfast and went many times during our trip- we tried many different options on the menu and enjoyed each one. A popular place, we did wait for a table but the staff worked fast to make sure everyone was accommodated and free coffee and water were available for those waiting. Would return in a heartbeat!
Mixed review. I really wanted to like this place, but we left feeling let down based on our overall experience and the reviews. The servers couldn’t have been friendlier and more attentive. The menu was more expansive than what I saw on their site. I also didn’t realize they served breakfast all day, which we hope to go back and try. I ordered the crab melt sandwich with fried green tomatoes on the side. It sounded better on the menu, as the flavors overwhelmed the crab to where I couldn’t even taste it. The green tomatoes were too heavily breaded and hard. My husband had the breakfast jerk chicken sandwich with a side of chippers. He said it was ok, but he wasn’t blown away. The tea was too sweet, and that’s saying a lot where my husband is concerned. The biggest turn off was how old and dirty the caf seemed. It is in major need of a remodel and deep cleaning. We do hope to go back and try breakfast, as they offer some interesting items, and to give it a second chance. The lunch crowd was very light, maybe 3 tables were occupied while we were there.
You literally cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! The cinnamon spiced sweet tea and sweet potato biscuit are a MUST! Make sure you ask for Christina – she’s a total sweetheart and will take great care of you!
