I went to the one downtown for a quick bite when we first moved here and ordered nachos. I wasn’t impressed although the portion was ridiculously huge. I decided to try the Mt. Pleasant location since I was craving tacos. The atmosphere was rustic (dive) with more of a party place feel to it. Velvet Elvis paintings adorn the walls and TV’s are everywhere.Service was okay. It was nothing particularly special or outgoing but efficient.I’m on of those freaks of nature that can’t eat cilantro thanks to genetics. Yes, it’s a thing and yes it tastes like soap. I informed my server that if any of the things I ordered have cilantro in them to please just leave it off.I ordered the beef taco which came with a lot of lettuce, Monterey Jack cheese and beef. Salsa was left off since it had cilantro in it. I used the hot sauce to replace the salsa. I had a side of sour cream to spread on it since I love sour cream and hot sauce together. I removed half of the lettuce and could not detect any cheese. Oddly, I really enjoyed this taco. I would go back for this taco!My second taco was the shrimp taco that comes with pico and lettuce. They nixed the pico since it had cilantro in it so it was basically a lettuce and shrimp taco. Damn genetics! They did put a creamy sauce on top that was tasty. Again, a lot of lettuce and I spruced it up with hot sauce and sour cream. The shrimp tho. They had a metallic flavor that I tend to taste when someone serves me imported or farm raised shrimp. They were cooked well with a nice seasoning but I could not get over the strange flavor of the shrimp. Right across from Shem Creek, please get local shrimp! If that was the only taco I ordered it would have been a two star experience for me.I might return for the beef taco but that shrimp taco was nasty! charlestonchews.com
