The food was outstanding. You can tell they care in the kitchen. The little manager was also wonderful. The only problem was the complete overuse of cell phones by everyone one on staff. As we walked in the host was texting. The bar tender was texting behind the bar with customers. Our waitress had to put down the phone just to greet us. In between. Repeatedly asking us if we were ready to order she was texting. The entire meal she was texting. She never introduced herself. Reminded me of a greasy diner with a fat lady serving me bad coffee
My Low Expectations Were Met…. Reading the reviews, Water’s Edge appeared to be the best of a very mediocre lot (Vickery’s scored a little better but heck it’s an Atlanta based restaurant where I live). So I took my guests hoping the food would be passable and the view would make up for any deficiencies. Well, it wasn’t and it didn’t.First, after a hot day we were looking to start off with a good tap beer to cool off. Turns out there is no tap beer at Water’s Edge, our bartender explaining that the owner forbade it because it brought in undesirable types who drink their beer from a pitcher. Huh??? We’re looking for craft beer, not Bud. Second, don’t serve pitchers if you feel that way!But that was a minor setback compared to the food itself. The calimari were small. The crispy flounder was dry and way over cooked. The fried seafood platter, which two in my party ordered broiled (nice of the restaurant to do so), was mediocre. The service was hit and miss, sometimes attentive then other times AWOL.All in all, if you like seafood eat in downtown Charleston. If you like views, go get a beer, albeit bottled only, at Waters Edge.
Good view, good service, ok food.. Go to Shem Creek bar and grill
Excellent Food and Service. Four of us had seafood and fish dishes for dinner. We all enjoyed our dinners, as evidenced by the clean plates. We left in the pouring rain, but were able to stay dry with the help of outdoor wait staff carrying large umbrellas.
The food is not very imaginative and bland. The quality of the vegetables is that of what you would expect of a diner. The service is average. As far as Charleston dining goes, there are much better restaurants for the price. Would not recommend.
Nice food and location. Had a good dinner while watching the dolphins jumping in the water. All the seafood was fresh and tasty. Really liked their Shrimp and Grits.
Very poor customer service. The food is ok, I’m ok with the price because its seafood but not seasoned well AT ALL and the waiter and waitress are very rude, not warm and welcoming at all and wearing shades while serving not very professional will not go back b/c of customer service alone :^(
