About
The Scully family is pleased to be able to bring this traditional New Orleans and Gulf Coast treat they grew up with to Murrells Inlet, SC! Brief History on the New Orleans Style Sno-Ball - similar to that of Hawaiian Shaved Ice: In 1936, George Ortolano, the original "Snow Wizard" created an invention of a simple but ingenious shaved ice machine that transformed blocks of ice used in the household icebox into mounds of delicate snow-like flakes. A Sno-Ball is a New Orleans confection made with finely shaved ice and flavored cane sugar syrup. Commonly confused with the snow cone, the ice of a Sno-Ball is fine and fluffy; while a snow cone's ice is coarse, crunchy, and granular. Moreover, in a snow cone the flavored syrup sinks to the bottom of the cup; while in a snow-ball the ice absorbs the syrup.
