Started with he cocktails and they were amazing -our table enjoyed a margarita, a paloma and planter’s punch and they were all perfection. I do want to go back and try the Honey Basil Margarita. Saturday night Happy Hour prices?? Yep! $2.00 off apps – so we had two – quesadilla (simple) and empanadas, the empanadas being the hands down winner! Light crispy crust, tasty chorizo and a very good mole on the side! I was intrigued by the ‘yellow mole’ for the Smoke Brisket Enchiladas, but the server could not tell me what made the ‘mole’ yellow (he couldn’t tell me the ingredients). Thankfully my husband ordered it and it was the best at the table!!! I had the hangar steak – also absolute perfection, plated with a little corn salad. No sides come with your meals, all ala carte – so we ordered a few. Fries, street corn and coconut rice ($3.00 for 1/2 cup-not worth it). The meals were of good size and a side was not necessary. If you are a heartier eater then the hangar steak might want a side – but I did not find it necessary. Besides, I knew there was a brulee on the dessert menu – one please, 4 spoons.

The queso fundido was delicious, but unfortunately needed to make this meal a full meal. The 3 small tacos did not. The buttermilk chicken one was good, the brisket one had chunks of fat mixed in with the meat, the Baja fish tacos only flavor came from the sauce on it. I wish there was also notification that the tacos were on soft corn tortillas. For me, it’s hard corn tortillas or soft flour tortillas, I hate soft corn tortillas. The place was empty at 8pm on a Saturday, which might give hint to why the menu has dwindled down to its small current state. Glad I tried it but I will probably not be back.

First time going…Best salsas in town! And a refreshing take on Mexican. Not your average fried chimichanga mess that leaves you filling regretful. A must go to!

Terrible Service. Basico is the sponsor bar for our bocce league. When we show up there are typically 15-20 people in our group and often we are the only people at the restaurant but it still takes the wait staff 15+ minutes to take our drink orders. Our league coordinator reminds them we should be treated better so we get one week of decent service before they return back to their crappy service. Food is good but the service is absolutely terrible for a group that should be getting great service for the number of people and frequency that we are there.

Killer spot for N Charleston. We went with a group of friends fo a quick dinner. Tried their 3-way salsa: pick, verde, and roja. All three were great!I had the 3 tacos: snapper, fried chicken, and grilled shrimp. Some of the tacos has pickled watermelon rind and crema…both of which were amazing. The patatas sal were killer as well. Fingerling potatoes baked in salt, deep fried, and covered in a sauce…how could that NOT be good? All things considered, it was a gray meal. My only complaint: everything was SUPER salty. I love salt and it was near my threshold for sodium. Anywho, I would definitely suggest it….just be ready to drink lots of water!

Nice place in North Charleston – Food was good – Food was very slow to come out of the kitchen. A group friends and I decided to try Basico for lunch. Basico in nestled in the Mixson area in North Charleston. There were 6 in the lunch party, so they pulled some tables together to accommodate the group. The eating area in the front is not large, but there are tables outside if the weather is nice. We all placed our orders and then the wait began. It took the kitchen 30 minutes to get the food out for the servers. Considering most people only have an hour lunch and of that hour at least 20 minutes is driving to and from work to an establishment. If it was a Saturday I wouldn’t have cared, but they need to speed it up for work day lunch service. The food was good. I ordered the veggie and fish taco. The fish taco was really good, the veggie was ok. Service was attentive and very nice.

I went to Basico last week (January 10) to check out their Restaurant Week menu. I ordered the Suiza Enchiladas, as every server suggested that they were the best thing on the menu. They were right! The tomatillo sauce was incredible and the chicken in the enchiladas was tender and well-seasoned. If you go to Restaurant Week, get the Suiza Enchiladas, you won’t be disappointed. I also had the shrimp chowder for an appetizer – that thing was full of flavor! I would definitely suggest ordering both of these dishes, and soon, because Restaurant Week only goes through January 19!I was so impressed with the Suiza Enchiladas that I went back with some friends on Sunday. I ordered the Mexican Bowl this time. The Chorizo that was in the bowl was delicious! The Chorizo had a bit of a spicy-kick to it and was packed with flavor. I haven’t had Chorizo like that in a long time. I would suggest this bowl too.I would definitely recommend going and trying Basico’s Restaurant Week menu. You get great portions of food for the price. I’ve tried other restaurants this week and I felt like they changed their portions or quality for Restaurant Week. Basico did neither – quality was excellent and the portions were great. I think it’s a must this weekend! And if not this weekend, I hope they put the Suiza Enchiladas on the everyday menu! I’ll surely come back for them!
