HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Owner verbally abused his wife in front of staff and quests. would never recommend this to anyone…….

Team Gennaros. Best Italian cuisine in town! I’ve have the pleasure of dining with the Gennaro family for years and their consistency has left my family & myself very satisfied and FAR from hungry every time! The staff is SO friendly and welcoming! Almost like you’re dining in your very own kitchen, without the mess! I especially love the seafood, so fresh! But they have exceptional authentic Italian dishes as well! You will certainly leave anticipating your next visit to Gennaros!

AAA. Best Italian in Town. Try the veal parmesan.

Yet another exceptional dinner. Dined here for my second time with family, and the food was just as exceptional as my August experience. But this time I ate at the new West Ashley location instead of N. Charleston. The best Italian restaurant in Charleston without question. My only complaint this time: the canolis were not filled as well as they should have been (lean in the center). The taste was excellent, but a good cannoli needs to be filled full with cream, not just on the ends. With this adjustment, the meal would have been perfect. Mussels, fried calamari, entrees, everything else was fantastic.04 Aug, 2012Excellent. Originally from northern NJ, so I grew up enjoying access to excellent Italian food. My family is also Italian, so I also enjoyed good home-cooked Italian. Been living in Charleston past 20 years, and am embarrassed to say that last night was my first time ever eating at Gennaro’s (N. Charleston location). Service was excellent as was the food: from the delicious, fresh crispy bread at the beginning to the incredible canoli for dessert. Everything was delicious, and the service was superb. Sara, our waitress, was very attentive and made for a great experience for my family. The canoli was perhaps one of the best I have EVER eaten… and I grew up on homemade canolis… I could not believe that such a good canoli could be found in Charleston, but it’s here and Gennaro’s makes it. The ONLY downside to this fantastic restaurant is that it is a bit pricey, especially for a restaurant located way up Dorchester Ave outside of Charleston. $24.95 for an entree that should have been more in the $15-17 price range, but this is my only small complaint. That said, the kids menu was very reasonable, and the desserts and apps were fairly priced. This is not a place I can afford to go every week (unfortunately, because this place is excellent), but for special occasions every few months, I will definitely be back. One of the best Italian restaurants in Charleston, period. And you will NOT find a better canoli in the area, and in fact their canoli can compete with the best in the N.Y. City area. It’s that good! I highly recommend this restaurant, but just be prepared for a hefty bill.

Always a great dinner!!. My wife and family have enjoyed this family owned restaurant since 1990’s. Start off with the Bam Bam shrimp and then dive into the Special Tuna piccata or the menu item Chicken Bolognese. If you have room for dessert enjoy the turamisu. My wife and I normally split the items ordered since they are so tasty. Make reservations!

Worst experience. My family and I went to Gennaro’s last night…It was the worst experience ever. The waitress was very rude and unprofessional. The food was not good and very small portions for the money you pay. Very disappointed and will not return.

Oh this is a refreshing Italian spot to enjoy a more authentic Italian meal! Coming from up North to the south where Olive Garden is as Italian as you get…Gennaros was like finding a diamond in the rough! Really like food, flavor, and service! Ummy
